I hopped on a motorcycle and took a tour of downtown which is the most affected part of Port-au-Prince. The unbelievable devastation makes the area look like a war zone. I was completely shocked at the end of the day when, amidst the rubble, I saw a human leg bone sticking out of a pair of pants!
We continue our tour of Haiti earthquake destruction with a trip down Delmas Road, a visit to the National Palace on Champs de Mars, and a visit inside the destroyed Cathedral of Port-au-Prince.
We passed by Caribbean Market on Delmas which was overrun by scavengers who were looting and grabbing whatever they could find. A strong smell in the air meant that they had uncovered a cadaver. The next day I went back only to find that the building had further collapsed, killing at least 8 of the looters.
The effects the earthquake has had on Delmas 75 in Haiti. I had a stong reaction to seeing my friend’s old apartment building in which I used to spend a lot of time whenever I visited Haiti. More videos coming soon.
