Wyclef Jean and Mat Damon in Cabaret
Matt Damon and Wyclef Jean spent the weekend touring the Caribbean—but it wasn’t a vacation.
The pair joined forces to bring attention to the desperate situation in Haiti, which has been hit by four tropical storms and hurricanes since mid-August, including Hurricane Ike last week. Hundreds of thousands of residents have been left hungry and homeless, and more than 300 people have died.

We know that we have been inundating you with information from the storms which have hit Haiti, but we cannot emphasize enough how dire the situation is. Bodies are being discovered every day, people are fighting for food, and in many instances, the situation is deteriorating. Please call try to contact your family and friends to see how they are doing. Send them money if possible. Also take advantage of the many organizations that are providing help to Haiti during this time of great need.

Haiti in Desperate Shape After Storms

With waters that probably will not recede for weeks or months, almost every part of the country has been affected in one way or another by the four storms which have hit in rapid succession. Up until now, people are still treading through water and counting the dead. While some are receiving aid and getting help. Others see no relief in site. These Associated Press pictures may give you an idea of what people are actually going through. Keep in mind that most of these were taken on 9/9/08 and 9/8/08. We will also be posting a telephone interview we had with some people in the affected areas.
A couple wades through a flooded street in Gonaives, Haiti, Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008. Four storms in a row have caused floods throughout Haiti that have killed more than 300 people in less than a month.
