People have been asking me what the state of the Neg Maron statue was after the Haiti earthquake. I went to Champs de Mars to check up on it and despite the fact that it is still standing, was very unhappy with what I found.
In order to take a break from Port-au-Prince, we decided to drive up the mountains surrounding the city and go o Fort Jacques. On the way up, there was no visible earthquake damage, so I was very surprised to find that the exterior of the fort had been affected. Little did I know what awaited me once I got inside!
I finally got the chance to visit the city of Leogane which was hit very hard by the Haiti earthquake due to its proximity to the epicenter. I tagged along with an organization called HelpAge International while they made a delivery of food and supplies to the elderly of the area.
I went down town to Champs de Mars to witness the three day mass prayer and vigil that was being held in honor of the victims of the january 12 earthquake.
