On our way back to Port-au-Prince from Jacmel, Haiti we spotted these huge cracks in the road. The earthquake in Haiti on january 12, 2010 literally split the road open and the cracks served as a reminder of how powerful the shaking actually was.
All the members of the household are on the balcony. At 4:33am we were rudely awakened by what I now know was a 4.7 aftershock. I’m not even gonna front, I was scared.
People have been asking me what the state of the Neg Maron statue was after the Haiti earthquake. I went to Champs de Mars to check up on it and despite the fact that it is still standing, was very unhappy with what I found.
In order to take a break from Port-au-Prince, we decided to drive up the mountains surrounding the city and go to Fort Jacques. On the way up, there was no visible earthquake damage, so I was very surprised to find that the exterior of the fort had been affected. Little did I know what awaited me once I got inside!
