Rain at Brooklyn Flag Day Festival

The Haitian Flag Day Festival in Brooklyn was marred by rain, cold weather, and low attendence. Despite this, people did manage to show up and enjoyed the festivities under their umbrellas. Scheduled to peform were rapper Jimmy Carter, Jerome Benoit, Larose, compas group First Klass, and Pahtoms, among others. On a low note, the festival was brought to an abrupt end after someone was stabbed! (Got some pix, but no details available.) Welcome to Brooklyn.

Hopefully there will be better weather for next week’s Haitian Flag Day Parade.

Persistent image of ‘hellhole Haiti’ an outdated myth, UN peacekeepers insist

It has an image of a hellhole and was recently named among the world’s 10 most dangerous destinations, alongside Iraq and Somalia, by Forbes magazine.

The United States government keeps a permanent warning against travelling there.... But now, according to new statistics from security experts and United Nations officials, Haiti is far less violent than many other Latin American countries.
