Under a hot Florida sun and weather in the 90s, tens of thousands of Compas Music lovers made their way to Miami’s Bicentennial Park for the 10th Annual Compas Festival held in commemoration of Haitian Flag Day. Recognized as one of the largest music festivals in the United States, it featured top Haitian bands such as T-Vice. Sweet Micky, Mizik Mizik, Djakout, and Carimi, among others.
The Haitian Flag Day Festival in Brooklyn was marred by rain, cold weather, and low attendence. Despite this, people did manage to show up and enjoyed the festivities under their umbrellas. Scheduled to peform were rapper Jimmy Carter, Jerome Benoit, Larose, compas group First Klass, and Pahtoms, among others. On a low note, the festival was brought to an abrupt end after someone was stabbed! (Got some pix, but no details available.) Welcome to Brooklyn.
Hopefully there will be better weather for next week’s Haitian Flag Day Parade.
