Haiti, exploration continues…

Eurasian Minerals Provides an Update on Haiti Exploration Programs

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire -04/23/12)- Eurasian Minerals Inc. (the "Company" or "EMX") (TSX-V: EMX.V - News)(AMEX: EMXX - News) is pleased to provide an update on the exploration programs underway in Haiti with Newmont Ventures Limited ("Newmont"). Under terms of a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") the government of Haiti and the joint venture agreed to certain protocols to continue discussions around the pending Mining Convention. Furthermore, the joint venture is allowed to drill on certain selected projects under the MOU, and drilling is currently underway at the La Miel Designated Project. In another recent development, Newmont relinquished their rights in the Grand Bois Research Permit that covers the historic gold resource area; as a result, EMX has regained 100% control of the Grand Bois project. Elsewhere in Haiti, exploration continues throughout the EMX-Newmont exploration portfolio, which currently covers over 130 kilometers of strike length along northern Haiti's Massif du Nord mineral belt, and includes gold and copper properties with multiple early-stage discoveries and drill-ready targets.

MOU Update. To assist in concluding the Mining Convention and accelerate the advancement of drill-ready prospects, the joint venture signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Haiti. The MOU establishes procedures under which the parties agree to use good faith efforts to conclude the Mining Convention. The MOU also allows exploration drilling on certain projects while ratification of the Mining Convention is finalized. Once ratified, the Mining Convention will set the financial and related conditions for project exploration, development, exploitation and closure.

La Miel Update. The La Miel Designated Project's Savane La Place gold prospect is the first project selected for drilling under the new MOU. Previous work at Savane La Place outlined over 15 square kilometers of epithermal alteration in volcanic rocks, and identified gold mineralization in trench sampling that included 243 meters averaging 1.71 g/t gold that is interpreted to represent an approximate true width interval across the main target zone. A diamond drilling program commenced on April 12th at Savane La Place, and is on-going.

Grand Bois Update. Newmont recently relinquished its interest to EMX in the 50 square kilometer Research Permit that covers the Grand Bois historic resource. However, Newmont did elect to retain its exploration interest in the Designated Project surrounding the Research Permit. Newmont will continue to fund and manage the exploration work on these surrounding properties as a Designated Project. The Company is reviewing its options for the Grand Bois project as a 100% EMX asset.

Haiti Exploration Overview. Newmont continues to fund and manage exploration of the six joint venture Designated Projects in northern Haiti. This work has supported reconnaissance to prospect scale geological mapping, geochemical sampling, and geophysical survey programs. The geochemical programs have resulted in over 2,200 BLEG (Bulk Leach Extractable Gold) and stream sediment samples, 23,000 soil samples, and 11,000 rock samples across northern Haiti. The geophysical programs include regional scale airborne magnetic and radiometric surveys of northern Haiti that total 4,500 square kilometers of coverage. In addition, more detailed district-scale magnetic, radiometric, and electromagnetic helicopter surveys cover more than 900 square kilometers over key target areas. These integrated work programs have generated a pipeline of drill-ready projects and high priority grassroots exploration targets with district-scale exploration potential.

Comments on Sampling, Assaying, and QA/QC. The joint venture's exploration samples are collected in accordance with accepted industry standards and procedures. The samples are submitted to Acme Labs (ISO 9001:2000 accredited) in Santiago, Chile for analysis. Gold is analyzed by fire assay with an AAS finish. Over limit gold assays (greater than 10 g/t) are re-analyzed by fire assay with a gravimetric finish. Routine QA/QC analysis is conducted on all assay results, including the systematic utilization of certified reference materials, blanks and duplicate samples.

BLEG (Bulk Leach Extractable Gold) is a proven geochemical method that analyses the cyanide extractable gold in soil and sediment samples. The technique utilizes large sample weights that allow for good sampling statistics and low detection limits, making this a useful method for gold exploration.

About EMX. Eurasian Minerals is a global gold and copper exploration company utilizing a partnership business model to explore the world's most promising and under-explored mineral belts. EMX currently has projects in ten countries on four continents, and generates wealth via grassroots prospect generation, strategic acquisition and royalty growth.

Feast your eyes on Haitian model Wilnor Tereau. As always, we love featuring fresh new faces on the industry scene. And here's one. The 27-year-old is new to modeling world and definitely leaves an impression. Meet Mr. Tereau inside......

Growing up in poverty in Haiti, Wilnor Tereau has an interesting story. For years, he survived living in a homemade two bedroom shack of mud with sugarcane leaves used as a protective roof top. And with no access to electricity, clean water, or food to eat.

After living with his grandmother in Croix-Des-Bouquets (which was affected by a massive cholera outbreak) he eventually moved to a poor city in Port-au-Prince called Cite Soleil.

But things began to look up for Wilnor after he moved to Chatham, Massachusetts to live with his father and step mother. He recalls bullied for being Black in a lily white environment. But he eventually became a superstar athlete on the school’s soccer team. After graduating, he enrolled in college, with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist.

And now, this damn near perfect specimen of a man is on the model tip.

Currently, Wilnor is exclusively signed to BIENAIME AGENCY where he is pursuing his career as a fashion model.

What does the muscle ridden model have to say about his story?

“Modeling really means a lot to me. It keeps me occupied and helps boost my self esteem and confidence. It has opened doors for me that I never thought were possible. It plays a big factor in my health because it motivates me to work out and stay fit. I am so blessed at this moment of my life right now. I thank God everyday for giving me this wonderful opportunity. My goal is to bring hope to all the people in Haiti!”

And we love it.

Saints’ Jonathan Vilma Suspended for a Year

Saints' Vilma suspended for 2012 season
Published May 02, 2012

New York, NY – New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma has been suspended for the entire season as a result of his participation in the club's bounty program.

Vilma, said to have offered $10,000 in cash to any player who knocked Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner out of a 2009 divisional playoff game, was one of four players to receive suspensions from the league and was easily penalized the hardest.

Defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove, now with Green Bay, has been suspended eight games, defensive end Will Smith was hit with a four-game ban and linebacker Scott Fujita, now playing for Cleveland, will sit for the first three games of the 2012 campaign.

All of the suspensions are without pay and stem from the bounty system run from 2009-11 by former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who was suspended indefinitely by commissioner Roger Goodell in March. Saints head coach Sean Payton was also suspended for a year for his knowledge of the program.

Similar to Payton's ban, Vilma's year-long penalty will begin immediately. The three other players can participate in offseason programs with their respective teams, including preseason games, prior to the suspensions taking effect.

Each of the players can appeal the decision within three days.

"It is the obligation of everyone, including the players on the field, to ensure that rules designed to promote player safety, fair play, and the integrity of the game are adhered to and effectively and consistently enforced," Goodell said in a statement issued Wednesday. "Respect for the men that play the game starts with the way players conduct themselves with each other on the field."

The evidence, according to the league's release, conclusively demonstrated that from 2009-11 Saints players, of their own accord, pledged significant amounts of their own money toward bounties, that players accepted payments for "cart-offs" and "knockouts" of injured opposing players, and that the payout amounts doubled and tripled for playoff games.
While a significant number of players participated in the pay-for-performance program, whether by contributing funds to the pool or collecting cash rewards, the players disciplined participated at a different and more significant level, Goodell noted.

"In assessing player discipline," Goodell said, "I focused on players who were in leadership positions at the Saints; contributed a particularly large sum of money toward the program; specifically contributed to a bounty on an opposing player; demonstrated a clear intent to participate in a program that potentially injured opposing players; sought rewards for doing so; and/or obstructed the 2010 investigation."

Vilma was accountable for the most noteworthy contribution. As a captain of the defensive unit, he is said to have helped establish and fund the program. In addition to his $10,000 bounty on Warner, sources told the NFL that he also pledged the same amount on then-Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre in the NFC Championship game the following week.

Hargrove submitted a signed declaration to the league that established not only the existence of the program, but also that he knew about and participated in it. The evidence showed that Hargrove told at least one player on another team that Favre was a target of a large bounty. Hargrove also actively obstructed the league's 2010 investigation into the program by being untruthful to investigators.

The NFL also said sources confirmed that Smith, also a defensive captain, and Fujita each pledged significant sums to the program.

"No bounty program can exist without active player participation," Goodell continued. "The evidence clearly showed that the players being held accountable today willingly and enthusiastically embraced the bounty program.

Players put the vast majority of the money into this program and they share responsibility for playing by the rules and protecting each other within those rules."
Goodell also sent the NFL Players Association a list of participating players that were not disciplined.

The initial penalties for the team and coaches were issued on March 21. In addition to Payton and Williams, general manager Mickey Loomis was suspended for the first eight games and assistant head coach Joe Vitt was
slapped with a six-game ban. Vitt was named interim head coach in place of Payton for the 2012 season. The Saints were also fined $500,000 and docked second-round draft picks in 2012 and 2013.
Haiti calls on diaspora for new investments

Haiti calls on diaspora for new investments

MIAMI — Josephine Elizee Legros sold her Weston, Fla., home, emptied her retirement and savings accounts, and poured all the money into the construction of a 22-room boutique hotel in the north of Haiti.

A labor of love, the project has been anything but easy. Construction has taken four years; getting the hotel name registered took three months and a local Haiti bank recently demanded additional paperwork for her to open an account.

"Helping Haiti requires personal sacrifice," said Legros, who hopes to welcome her first guest in Mole Saint-Nicolas this December.

Legros was among dozens of Haitians living in the diaspora who attended the first day of a two-day Haiti investment conference in Miami Beach Monday. Organizers hope to get Haitians to invest in their quake-battered homeland.

"Haiti has problems, but we still do business through those problems," Herve Denis, president of Haiti's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told attendees. "There are people doing business and making profits."

Still, Haiti needs more investments, especially from its sons and daughters in Florida and elsewhere, organizers said. Accomplishing this, however, requires an honest and somber conversation about opportunities - and challenges.

"The diaspora isn't going to disengage with Haiti," said Johnny Celestin, executive director of the Haitian Diaspora Federation, which partnered with Sustainatopia - it holds a regular conference on global and social change - to sponsor the conference.

"We know that we are being milked," Celestin said of the diaspora, which is already contributing to education through a remittances and a telephone tax instituted by President Michel Martelly's year-old administration. "The question is: 'What are we going to get out of it?' We can't just sit on the sidelines and not take chances."

Among the 30 speakers who addressed the 2012 Investment Forum were Denis, as well as Haiti's outgoing prime minster, the head of its investment center and the chief of cabinet for the ministry of commerce. U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., also spoke.

Garry Conille, who worked in Africa for the United Nations before accepting the job as prime minister, said there are a number of models that Haiti could use to get more bang out of its diaspora dollars. Among them, offering long-term bonds to Haitians living abroad who currently send about $1.4 billion in remittances to Haiti annually, and investing the proceeds in reconstruction and other projects.
