The objectification and degradation of women is WORLDWIDE, it wasn't imported to Haiti from somewhere else. Women worldwide must mobilize to defeat it, and we have done a lot of that work here in the USA. The Haitian women's movement is not really "Haitian", it's Haitian-diasporan, Haitian women who have lived in the USA or elsewhere and come back to Haiti. They are WONDERFUL women, they deal with persecution and rape threats and all sorts of violence, and they keep on. Haitian men should kiss the ground those women walk on, instead of masturbating over porno.

Shut the fuck up! You are a terrible example of a Mambo! Are you even aware that pornography has a big industry in America including Europe....Go to Asia and you will see white men sleeping with 12 year old girls and boys!!!!!

White people have been making porn films waaaay before Haitians new what "Adult Films"were...The Haitian culture is a conservative culture and it is unfortunate that it has been threatened by outside sources...

Lastly, how dare you insult my people! Not all Haitian men are what YOU have dealt with!!!!!

I so wanted so let the witch have it Kathy, but I had too much to say and did not want to start a nasty war on HaitiXchange with the witch and disrepect the people on here. We'll keep it cute for now. Mwen kon'n bouch li ap kale'l. Yo genle te ba'l kek Baff Jamayik ou we se Ayiti li vin'n pawose!

You are using a broad brush...putting pornography, sexual abuse of children, subjugation of women into the same category.

They BELONG in the same category! It's all about power and control.

Mambo Racine,

I noticed that you have the tendency to go off topic...this thread was about pornography invading the Haitian youth and here you are ranting on about the objectification of Haitian women...[/size]

The objectification of women promotes pornography, and pornography promotes the objectification of women.

Now... see? I was able to make my point without screaming obscenities at a WOMAN.

Just as JC said, the objectification of women have existed long before pornography...and yes, I do blame the women who have chosen to exploit themselves sexually...they have made women look like a bunch of sex objects...

Mambo; that is nonsensical...almost everything on earth has to do with power and control.

Business, the nation state, organized religion, GOD, education system, financial system, justice system, employment, money, parenting, marriage, civil rights movement, women rights movements.

It is all about someone or some organization having control and power over others....or about individual gaining control and power over themselves.

A woman who DECIDES to get involved in pornography is exercising her CONTROL and POWER over her own body...just as the woman who DECIDES not to engage.

It is all about personal DECISION Mambo.......but it is very clear that you have a need for control and power over the DECISION of other women.

Do your own thing Mambo and let others do theirs.

I agree with kathy and the above post 100%. How does an inquiry into widespread availability of pornography to underage persons in and around schools in Haiti become a referendum on the role of women in society? Some posters view the world through lenses warped by their prejudices and limitations then assault us with their ignorance.

...Mambo Racine, this is one of the reasons why "blan" or non-Haitians cannot be 100% accepted in Haiti by Haitian or Haitian diasporans. You do not know the full history of the Haitian women's movement in Haiti because if you did, you would know that it was started by indigineous women long before you were born and that it was continued by many MANY Haitian women who were living in Haiti. You made a strong and blanketed statement and if there were people who were not knowledgeable, they would take your word as true. It is not until the past 10-15 years that diasporan Haitian women have become so involved on a grander scale in the rights of Haitian women. There have been movements and organizations in Haiti since the 60's that dealth with "dwa fanm" as well as health care, motherhood, etc. Yvonne Sylvain, Suzanne Comhaire-Sylvain, Bayinnah Belo, Yvonne Hakim Rimpel, Madeleine Sylvain-Bouchereau, Léonie Coicou-Madiou. read up on them my dear and you will see that ever since the early 1900's (1906), Haitian women IN HAITI have instigated, started, participated and expanded the women's rights movement in Haiti. The Haitian-diasporan women of whom we are also very proud of, came and added/builtupon a big foundation and movement that was already there. I would know that Mambo Racine, with all due respect, because of the fact that i would never make such an affirmation on a subject without knowledge of teh subject and the history of it.

As for Haitian men whom you state "masturbate over porno", i think you meant to say "some Haitian men" as opposed to all "Haitian men" as an entirety paske mem jan se pa tout pret ki ap vyole ti moun, mem jan se pa tout blan ki rasist, mem jan se pa tout houngan ak manbo ki malfektè/malfèktez...se pa tout gason Ayisien ki ap mache vyole timoun ak fanm ak mastubè douvan pòno.

Lastly, if you look at the history of tourism in Haiti as well as military occupation and prostitution/molestation/drugs...you will find that when the international community including the Marines, Hollywood actors/actresses, rich tourists came to Haiti...they bought a huge amount of teh vices inherrent in Haiti right now by using Haiti's poverty against her people, almost like the carrot in front of the mule. Violation of women, children and men/boys should be punished...and I say men/boys paske gen anpil moun ki sot nan lot peyi ki vinn vyole tigason an Ayiti, like that priest who was kicked out of the chuirch and then started an orphanage in Haiti and like the many Minustah who were arrested and discharged from Haiti fo their role in raping young girls. Li pa bon kelkeswa si se Ayisien ou byen blan lot nasyon ki fè-l, men pa vinn mete tout chay la sou do gason Ayisien souple.

The original Haitian Constitution contains provisions for women rights and sufferage not reflected in similar documents of other republics of that time.
