Tyentyen= Mais - from the French word (Tiens) - When giving corn to the slaves, the master used to say "tiens, tiens!" to the slave.

That one sounds unlikely Lelo.

Why would it stuck only for mayi? how about veritab and other things.

My granma used to tell me the same thing. I guess mayi moulen used to be the main meal.

That's a good one; I didn't know that.
I doubt "Haiti's first rapist" is a title belonging to him. He may have been a "serial" rapist who became infamous for his acts; or perhaps the first convicted rapist.

GREAT FIND, JESUS!

Ago is also used to say "hello" too. I meant to add that earlier, but forgot.

Holy hamburger!! Where was I that I never saw this thread?

Great thread. There are so many words that I always wonder about such as "kengele" which I read on the net is a town in West Africa and it also means "bell."

What about the following:

agoye

ibolele

iwo iwa (sp)

The idiot has been around under the name JoeGonaive, but we never realized that. Today he decides to show himself. Like Zopope said, Sakapfèt, Raboto, JoeGonaive "se menm enbesil la"! No wonder why I am the only one he attacked, beside the webmaster!

Somewhere else Zopope wrote: "Jacmel's name or Jakmèl in Creole is derived from Yaquimel, its Taino name that means "rich land"." Would the word "ganmèl" be of the same family? Does anybody know? Thanks!
