Sorry I can't represent Okap because I only know the front of my house and the "sinema" next to the Cathedral. I remember that the statue of Dessaline was up on a hill in the park and that there was a kiosk in the middle of the park. Mezanmi, it's sad.

But I feel you guys though.

That a maiden there "lives" whom you may know
....By the name of "Eugénie";
And this maiden she "lives" with no other thought
....Than to love and be loved by me.

......-Poe, Annabel Lee

But love is blind, and lovers cannot see
The pretty follies that themselves commit.

.....-Shakespeare, Merchant of Venice, II, 6

That photo I believe is from the Hotel du Roi Christophe. Did you know that Baby Doc met his infamous wife in the lobby of that hotel? Nice lobby and pool area but the rooms were a bit rough.

The Sans Souci Palace will always hold a special place in my heart. I proposed to my wife at the top of the balcony overlooking the front courtyard. The same place where Marion Anderson performed and where Henry Christophe stood to view his military on parade.

It is not. It's Mont Joli (?). From what I remember, the hotel you speak of is not on a hilltop.

You maybe right, but that view and the layout of the pool area always somewhat reminded me of Ibo Lele and its fantastic pool area and view and breeze.

Yes, you are right. I had the two confused about the pool area. Poor Kapayisyen, to go from the "Pearl of the Antilles" to total ruin is a tragedy. To have the grandeur of Cap Francois without the slavery would be dream come true.

I'm curious if anyone's ever seen a rendering/painting of what HC's Sans Souci palace looked like in its glory days? I've yet to come across one myself.
Capoix, have you got one in your attic?
