After seeing the videos about the documentary On the Otherside of the Water Rara ,questions raced through my mind.
Rara is a tradition that gets a lot of love or a lot of hate. Personally I love it and can't get enough of it. But for others you know its satanic, its this and that and whatever. But i want to learn more about your views so....

What is it about rara that attracts you to it or pushes you away from it? (Be open) (Post pics) (Share Stories)

Personally I don't like the Rara in Brooklyn.........it feels so fake to me. I can't even explain it in detail but something about it just seem empty......Like its forced

Now Rara in Haiti, ESPECIALLY in Gonaives and Leogane......NOW THAT'S SOME DEEP RARA!!!!

And if anyone have experienced the stick clapping phenomenon of Soucri...........*sniff* Brings tears to my eyes *sniff* Stuff of legends man.

I DARE ANYONE TO SEE THAT AND NOT GET MOVED

Dislikes:

I hate when people see Rara simply as a way to do whatever the hell they want and start going buck wild for no reason, pushing people, drinking out of control, etc..........and girls taking the opportunity to start dancing like strippers and everyone claiming that its "African Dance" and its part of our culture.

When your doing the split and shaking your ass or bending over and popping your ass in the air ........don't use the excuse that its "African culture".

I love rara. What draws me to it is the simple care free atmosphere (to a certant extant) when couples are family making in the middle of the drum line it loses its appeal(true story). but what also attracks me to rara are the vaccinces. I love the sound that they make. It unexplainable.

Likes: the sound, the whole back to our roots thing

Dislikes: Everyone uses it as an excuse to go Ape Shit at a party wether it be on the streets during kanaval or a club. Also Like every other genre in Haiti except for Konpa of corse and now Hip Hop en Kreyol its not getting as much play. However that can change.

Dislike: It's getting a little bit diluted....Once you see older footage of rara in the countryside, you know what I'm talking about. It's pure and beautiful.

This is a video from one of the poorest slums in Port-au-Prince: Bel Air

The vid is brief, but hear the rara. Clearly a difference.

Are these the behaviors you guys detest in rara?

Well, screw you guys. lol. Rara is a time to let your hair down. So if there's bel gouyad, kleren k'ap pase....let it be. lol

When rara and a band procession to form a bannapye meet in Champ-de-Mars, pre-carnavalesque days. The result: EXPLOSIVE!
