Can anyone suggest the best plan or calling card to use when calling Haiti via cell to cell. I tried using the ones that are good for calling the Dominican Republic, but they seem to give less time when calling Haiti. Some people say "Magic Jack"
I hope this doesn't turn into a political thread !
Digicel or voila gives you 22-25 mins for two dollars calling card.
Is there one that I can purchase with a Debit or Credit card? this way I can use it anywhere at anytime without having to keep collecting cards.
http://www.rebtel.com/u/01256396395 is a good..It's pinless. Even better when you have iphone or any phones that run with android. They have an app for android phones where you won't need to enter pin(just dial the Haiti number)
Actually My aunt who lives in New York use the Optimum international calling plan..
Its really good and cheap, when I went to see her, I called Haiti all the time, and still there were minutes left
in order to get it you must be an optimum customer...

New fees for sending money or calling Haiti
Associated Press, 05.26.11, 03:50 PM EDT
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- The cost of making a call or sending money to Haiti is about to go up because the new president is imposing fees to raise money for his goal of free education.
President Michel Martelly says the new fees will go into effect next month. Haiti will impose a charge of $1.50 on wire transfers and five cents per minute on phone calls to the country. Haitians living abroad will probably pay most of these fees.
Martelly told a news conference he projects the fees will generate $144 million over the next five years to pay for schools.
Haitian emigres wire about $1.5 billion annually to relatives back home. The wire transfers make up about 26 percent of GDP.

Brilliant idea!
Tax the diaspora to build schools without electricty.
Classic Democrat Party strategy of: "Tax the Rich"
5 cents per minute. Isn't the call rate around 12 cents?

Nice, a 42% tax rate on each call.
Well, the "wealthy" can afford it!
ah gonne, mwen tojou dako ave'w patne men fwa sa, mpa konnen. fo'k moun yo komanse jwenn solisyon yon jan.
It's about time Haiti had a reliable revenue tax base that the government can rely on to advance the country into a modern society. It makes much more sense to develop a tax base than to continue taking high interest loans with foreign banks, or worst showing up at the doorstep of the International community with hat in hand like destituted niggers begging the master for a piece of buttered biscuit from his table.
My only concern is will the money be used rensponssibly and will their be transparency in congress?
Some of you are being hypocritical and duplicitous with this proposal. You say you're against NGO's and hand outs of any kind, but you're also not willing to contribute in the rebuilding of Haiti. Make up your minds and stop playing politics for once.

i think Michel Martelly must create more Roads and add Toll Plazas. Let a Brazilian Firm build the roads and collect the Tolls, in exchange they maintain the main Highways. I believe this is what is being done in some of DR's main highways. The country needs some rule and order. If he can get this on Track the country will be in a great position in the next ten years. Also, I wouldn't mind him putting some more taxes on the Dominican imports, while demanding that Haitian producers are able to replace the agricultural products and sell them at dominican prices.
Why bother spending all your money for a calling card when you can pay 5 dollar + monthly plan per month in cell phone companies like MetroPCS or any other company that doesn't require contract.
