The old worked for their money and saved.
The young are spoiled, are generally not hard working, do not save and expect things to come easy.

Which generation of young are you talking about? I think it depends on the young generation, I've read articles citing the current young are more frugal than their baby boomer parents and older generation x siblings.

Indeed!
Benz, you and JC probably recall that I have been making this point for several years.
My generation is self-centered, Godless, egotistical, self-absorbed; and WE WILL EAT OUR YOUNG!
Too bad your generation will not have voting control for at least another 10-15 years.
Until then, we are going to clean your clocks and rob you further of your future.
Why? because we're more important and better than you!
That is sincerely what my generation thinks.
WE stole from our parents and grand-parents frugal nature, and then stole from your future earnings; all to SERVE OURSELVES.
Clinton - Bush Jr - Obama are all of MY GENERATION.
And they have easily, willingly, happily, spent YOUR FUTURE today and on themselves (my generation).
But Obama! Obama! Breaks all the records!
I have been informing you folks for several years that YOU MUST stand-up against entitlement spending.
Because! It's going to "US" and not to "Aid The Poor".
Obama is going to continue to spend at full speed if re-elected.
Do you not understand the damage he is doing to your future?
I don't know how much better Romney will be but he's worth a shot over Obama.
But again! It's your money, and once again, your ideology (party loyalty) will win out over real USDs.

BENZ, we are not comparing the US savings rate to other countries savings rate.
We are comparing generations within the US.
The old cannot steal from the young because the young don't have the wealth to be stolen from.
The young have a sense of entitlement and are less willing to work for it.
Well tough tities.
I am all set and so is little JC.

I see it differently GUNNER.
No one is owed a future.
Let each generation create, maintain, waste and transfer their wealth anyway they see fit.

Well it's good that your son has a father who is thinking for his future. BUT it is out of your hands. His generation will have to pay for that 14 trillion with taxes and reduced benefits. indivdually he'll be ok but, like you said, it a generational thing. That debt is not going to magically disappear.
I do realize that the individual savings rate is different than the national debt but it does tie in to spend recklessly on an individual and national level.

You and your children are safe in a perfect world. However you are a professional asset manager and not everyone has your know how.
These are the people that will have to put their children on the hook for unforeseable factors such as:
Having their pension revoked or reduced.
Not everyone has access to tax advantaged and non taxed retirement options
Cuts in healthcare and social security will most likely be supplemented by the child if the parent cannot afford it with their own savings.
Not being able to save for a college education or assisting their children while they are in college.
There are alot of factors with downstream effects.

GUNNER, there is always a way.
Man created this modern world and man will continue managing it as man is the master.
Yes there will be terrible and scary periods of history....but the fittest will survive in the end.
