Haitian Prime Minister would Replace the IHRC

Friday, 25 November 2011 18:23

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille is currently working with a team to develop a new structure to replace the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC).

According to the Associated Press, Haitian officials say that 120 projects submitted to the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission remain open while IHRC’s mandate has expired in October.

Haitian officials, says the press agency, failed to renew the IHRC or create a new agency to coordinate reconstruction efforts. Experts fear that without a commission to oversee the reconstruction, international donations cease or that the money already promised not paid because donors fear it could be wasted.

Laura Graham, from Clinton Foundation, said former U.S. President continues to ask donors to honor their commitments. "Without the IHRC or a similar platform, we are concerned that donors are no longer present," said Ms. Graham. "This is the main concern of Mr. Clinton that donors do not turn away from Haiti."

Martelly-Conille to Renew Mandate of IHRC

DetailsCategory: Executive Published on Monday, 24 October 2011 20:25

.PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Haitian government is about to submit to Parliament a bill calling to renew the Interim Commission for the Reconstruction of Haiti (IHRC) whose 18 months term has just expired.

The bill should soon be submitted to parliament by the new government requiring a one-year extension of IHRC mandate, the Interim Commission chaired by Haitian Prime Minister with former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

Haitian President Michel Martelly has already met with a group of parliamentarians on the maintenance of the IHRC, according to the chairman of the Haitian House of Representatives, Deputy Sorel Jacinthe (Moron & Chamberllan/Inite).

"President Martelly has proposed a law demanding to renew this institution," said Deputy Jacinthe underlining that the president had campaigned against the IHRC when he was a candidate.

Recently president Martelly stated that "IHRC is a positive institution for Haiti, useful to progress with the reconstruction projects. It is the Commission that can help finding funds to do the job."

The Commission was created in the aftermath of the earthquake of January 12 at a meeting in New York of Friends of Haiti and international donors around the country's reconstruction.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess parliament must have "shelved" his "law" or something. But Martelly, just 1 month ago, was pushing forward 100% with the IHRC.

I want the IHRC disbanded and if it was, MORE money would flow into Haiti.

I've been stating for almost a year that what is holding up funding is Clinton & Farmer's stranglehold on Haiti.

The International donors DO NOT trust them.

They will trust the Haitian Gov't if solid accounting/financial controls are placed on the funds and over seen by a major accounting firm.

I'm 100% behind foreign donors arriving and building a national grid of infrastructure without the Haitian Government ever touching the money provided the international donors DID NOT have to run it through the IHRC, IDB, WB, NGO's, etc.

The Haitian Government is NOT the obstacle. Clinton, and his boys; are.

And they will fight like caged lions to protect their little nest egg; known as "Haiti".

I seperate "international donors" from "international community".

The former is various nations throughout the world, and the latter is the UN, WB, IDB, IHRC, etc
