Well... For starters is not the Potoprince Kanaval, so moving it around the cities shouldn't mirror what would happen is the "Rio", "New Orleans" or "Port of Spain" carnival was moved to other towns in the same country. Much like here in the DR we have several that belong to each region.

So far I always heard of "Ayiti's Kanaval" and never "Potoprince" attached to it...

It will be good for local biz always that security is present in force!

Well...as a foreigner..you better sit down and learn.

It is the potoprens kanaval......they started calling it national because of its size and scope.

les cayes, gonaives, cap haitian, jacmel have their own kanaval....just like the various brazilian cities and different towns in louisiana and alabama.

Ah! I always read Haitian Kanaval so I assumed wrong!

But one would have to agree that given potoprens current situation would make it sense to host it elsewhere in the country, no?

How's the road from PAP to Les Cay? From the videos I see posted on YouTube, Les Cayes is beautiful and clean but I cannot imagine it to be able to handle the mass of people.
Let's just hope for the best.

I'm sorry for being offensive here, but I don't think Les Cayes should be the location for the Carnival. We all know how Port-au-Prince look like and we don't want to duplicate that mess. Heck, I'd be pissed if they decided to throw the carnival in Jeremie.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

You are right Kathy.

Les cayes is not really clean....there are no clean urban areas in Haiti.

But it has remained relatively small and not quite as filthy as Gonaives or Cap Haitien and of course Potoprens.

Petion-Ville would be the best place for the potoprens region kanaval.

Carnivals happen in different parts of Haiti, ie, Cap Haitian, Jacmel and others.......

What happens in Port Au Prince every year is Mardi Gras......

Countries around the world choose one city where they celebrate Mardi Gras annually.......because it offers the people a sense of continuity.....tradition

Those advocating Mardi Gras should be in different parts of the country......are only trying to break our tradition.....may be we can cross the border for the celebration of panyol mardi gras.

When I first heard the rumor......I thought of lost revenues.......and now it's reality, I'm thinking lost tradition......

If the misery of Haiti’s poor is not caused by their nature, but by institutions, great is the sin.

I disagree; this is a great opportunity for le Département du Sud. Although the carnival will be held in the capital of Les Cayes, let's not forget the arrondissement du Sud has a lot to offer. Port Salut, Île-à-Vache, Aquin, Saut-Mathurine and etc. are only moments away from Les Cayes and those places have been buzzing. I think this is a great plan.

Carnaval can happen anytime....like carnaval on eastern parkway in brooklyn during summer.........

Mardi Gras is more specific, it happens only once a year......on sunday, monday, tuesday before Ash wednesday....period.

Every country that celebrates MARDI GRAS....does so in same city every year.

During Mardi Gras in PAP....more than 3 million line the streets of PAP...... that's more than the population of Jamaica........Mardi Gras in PAP is one of few things Haiti does well. Keep the tradition.

Let's not lose that.

Gonaives would not fair any better.

Yes...but I don't care about Gonaives.

Are you Haitian or simply 25% Haitian and 75% Les Cayes. Stupid Haitian mentality.

opportunity for what???? spreading the filth and malpwopte?

we know the south has a lot to offer.....it is the hordes visiting that have nothing to offer in exchange.

save the grand sud for the right type of tourist.

Those who ain't happy.....typical thinking.

Let's re-invent the wheel - square shaped -

One of the few things we've done right over the years....no matter what's going on.....we had managed to do excellent with a tiny budget for Mardi Gras in PAP.

Because we've used the formula that's been working in every other country.........For Mardi Gras, pick a city.....establish tradition......and people will come en mass.

Our Mardi Gras celebration in PAP is far superior than most around us......

Let's not mess this up.

BTW, I'm all for showcasing other cities......with their own carnivals......but Mardi Gras should be in PAP because it's always been there and because it's been extremely successful.......the formula works.

Chadap. What “ right type” of tourist are you alluding to? Please enlighten me.
