I got a friend of mine living in Haiti, yet I've heard how the English language was in progress all over the country but I wasn't too sure about it being sceptic by nature. Yesterday, while on Facebook, I was surprise to saw all these events advertised in English. In fact, even the comments made by the people on these pages were written in a good English levl ( and 99% of people replying were also Haitians between 17-20 years old).

thanks for starting this thread because when i brought up the idea a few years back, i was told by some xchnagers that i was a crazy idiot who doesn't know jack about haiti.

i have said many times, in twenty years or so, a great majority of haitians will speak english because english is the language of business--MONEY.

the majority of ngos are english speaking organizations that refuse to speak creole anyway. if you've been paying attention thus far, the 'schools" they're building and running have english curriculum somewhere in there.

culturally, note the changes in music. enough said on that one.

i talk to my cousins in p.a.p via facebook, twitter, and even texting and rarely do they speak or write in creole or french; it's almost always in english. my ex-wife came from a visit to haiti not too long ago, she said english seems to be the trend. other people are saying the same thing. my brother who volunteers every three months or so with doctors without borders (yeah i know an ngo) said the trend is not just in p.a.p. the young (the future) are picking up english faster than they would french because that's where the money lies.

This topic has brought me much consternation from the young diaspora over the years as they're committed to forcing Haitian Nationals to learn to read and write in kreyol.

Haitian Nationals get it.

Their kreyol is useless to them outside of carrying on casual conversation amongst other Haitians.

The action is in ENGLISH and not French, and certainly not in Kreyol.

Martelly's "free for all" education plan was a waste of an opportunity to require English be taught in all Haitian schools starting from day one.

I had suggested that "Rosetta Stone" centers be established so that Haitians can learn the language on their own since Martelly is so knee deep in shoulder surgeries that he doesn't have time.
