How are you planning on celebrating the 209th anniversary of the creation of the Haitian Flag? Are you planning on celebrating at all?

Because of Haiti’s contribution to their liberation, Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador incorporated the Haitian bicolor into their flags.

In honor of the solidarity that Haiti provided Latin America’s liberators Miranda and Bolivar, the Venezuelan Consulate will host an evening of wine, hors d’oeuvres, music, and patriotic presentations to honor the Haitian flag’s 209th anniversary.

A $10 door fee will be collected to support the work of Haïti Liberté newspaper.

"What a shame! Please read on... The guest of honor for this year's flagship event of Miami's month-long celebration of Haitian culture: the May 18 Flag Day "Big Night in Little Haiti" is none other than one of the true founders of the roots music movement in Haiti - Sanba Zao. A guiding light for several generations of musicians and activists, Sanba Zao is a true original and a cultural icon.

A few weeks ago, this flyer began circulating, after T-Vice was added to the bill. (Apparently, their services were offered as a result of them not being included in the "KompaFest" - a huge konpa festival taking place the next evening!)

Anyway, the flyer has a HUGE picture of T-Vice, while the original guest of honor, Zao is barely visible. Zao hardly ever performs in the States so this is a big deal, and he deserves better than this. Haitians need to wake up and start celebrating and promoting their own true culture with pride. The rest of the world does not take it for granted.

By the way, I was right next to Zao on stage when that tiny little photo was taken. We were performing together IN SWEDEN. He is going back with his 12 person group Djakata to perform there AGAIN in October as the featured artists in a huge chorale festival. When was the last T-Vice gig in SWEDEN again?"

Si nou ta vle entèprete drapo wouj e ble-a, na'p rann nou kont preseprese deskripsyon drapo sa-a chaje diskrimasyon. Kelkeswa sa koule wouj ak ble yo reprezante, ke'l te neg nwa a'k san'l, ke'l te nègnwa a'k nègmilat, diskrimination an klè tankou dlo kokoye. Nou pa'ka konsidere san yon moun, ki nan ka drapo-a se la vi, gen mwens enpòtans pase moun nan li menm. Menm jan-an tou nou pa'ka panse milat nan peyi-a enferyè a moun nwa yo.
