While Haitians argue over dual citizenship, the French have an elected rep just for their diaspora.

-------------------------

FLANKED by four campaign volunteers and a French television reporter, Corinne Narassiguin, a Socialist candidate in France’s coming parliamentary elections, went canvassing in her would-be district one evening in May.

ELECTION YEAR French nationals in New York City voted in the first round of French presidential elections in April.
But the doors she was knocking on were in the West Village.

“Bonjour, madame,” Ms. Narassiguin said over a town house’s intercom.

A volunteer leaned in to ask in French, “Would you like to talk for a few minutes, if you have time?”

The woman didn’t — she was putting her children to bed — but she did plan to vote for Ms. Narassiguin. “Merci beaucoup,” Ms. Narassiguin said, campaign postcards with her photograph in hand. As they went down the stoop, a volunteer shouted to the others, “It’s a vote!”

On June 16, for the first time, French nationals living in the United States and Canada will elect a deputy to represent them in the National Assembly of France. There are 11 such new parliamentary seats for citizens living abroad, in Europe and the rest of the globe. The North American constituency counts 156,683 registered voters — less than a quarter of the size of a United States Congressional district.

LOL......

They'd give a few people acceptable to them for us to pick from.....and that representative would advocate american/dominican friendly policies all over the fucking media...

Our problem is not more representation......it's representation by people who don't represent the majority and favors foreign economic interests.

It's bad enough we have a foreigner holding the Ministry of Tourism post......wasting our fucking money because she likes media coverage......we don't need another useless government cabinet.

I thought this was Haitixchange.......topics should have connection to Haiti.

So Frenchies Living Abroad have a representative in French Parliament.......Nexus to Haiti?

I thought the point was that Haitians should have an "elected" representative instead of one appointed by the Executive.

Proving my point even more....we already have a "ministry for Haitian Living Abroad" and all he does is spend his money in the Dominican Republic.....the man seems to have little regard for Haitian economy and Haitian products.......

So in addition to that @@@@@@@, we should have parliamentary representative?????????

And yes, Ministry of Tourism is headed by someone born in Venezuela and who does not represent the "real" Haitian culture.....yes, they should get rid of her and appoint a "real" Haitian.....

My point is still the same.......we don't need one - Parliamentary member or even one at Ministry level right now......it's a waste of Haitian taxpayers, waste of government revenues......

The Haitian government would be better off spending it on ways it knows best....importing water and ice from the dominican republic.

May be one day Haiti will have dual citizenship.

As of today, that doesn't exist in Haiti.

So either you're Haitian, or you ain't.

And since the Minister of Tourism was not born in Haiti, not educated in Haiti, does not represent Haitian culture, does not understand Haitian ideals.......she should go back where she came from.

If Martelly insists on giving the job to a foreigner, he should give it to Shaun Penn.......because he is foreign to Haitian culture just like the current head of tourism.......but I think he'd do a better job.....and we wouldn't have to waste money - he'd do it for free.
