Looks like Kigali to me.

Oops! Not supposed to compare Rwanda to Haiti since it isn't fair.

What ever happened to the new Port au Prince as a floating city in the sea?

Remember that dopey adobe image?

This one isn't too far off.

Why a raised road? Don't they require more maintenance?

Pay it ZERO attention.

If I had the time, I would dig into which NGO/Lobbyist on K Street in Washington DC got the HUGE consulting fee to design this "elevated road".

It's not really a long distance at all. It looks like what they are trying to do is create an overpass which will enable people to get around the very busy Kafou Aewopo, where Delmas intersects Martin Luther king Avenue and the Airport Road. This intersection has multiple turning signals, turning lanes, tap-tap and bus stops, taxi stands, and is easily the busiest intersection in all of Haiti. Being able to get around it would be beneficial, but I am a little concerned.

Haiti doesn't have the best record when it comes to maintaining public works. Several years ago, this intersection was expanded at great expense. People were evicted and homes and businesses were knocked down to make room for a wider boulevard. Monuments were placed at the the corners which are now all worn down and decrepit. To me they are eye sores. If Haiti cannot maintain those monuments, how is t going to maintain an overpass which willl be potentially traversed by thousands of cars a day? The last thing we need is for this thing to come down in the next earthquake with dozens of cars on it.

Also, underneath, overpasses are usually dark and dingy. I'm wondering what they are planning on doing with the space underneath this overpass.

These images below are just my annotations from Google Maps. This is just what I have gathered based on the little I've read so far. I didn't find any info on the Ministère des Travaux Publics website

19 Delmas, Port-au-Prince, Ouest, Haiti - Google Maps-1

Nazon, Port-au-Prince, Ouest, Haiti - Google Maps-1

Construction of an elevated road to Delmas
Jacques Rousseau, the Minister of Public Works, has announced that work for the construction of the first elevated road, in the Delmas neighborhood should begin before the end of the year. This road, will start between Delmas 17 and 19 to finish at the Martin Luther King Avenue (Nazon).

It will be similar to this road.

I beleive they could of construct more , because traffic in Port au Prince is so crazy.

Damn Haiti is so far behind, we should of have type of roads like that a long time ago.

Anyway now it's try to make an effort

The location of this overpass makes no sense at all.

I hope the whites overseers who probably are paying for this...... step in quick and stop the nonsense.

Instead of tearing down things to make space for roads.......they will be building one ugly badly built overpass after another...as the areas under continue down the bidonvillization path.

You think Potoprens is ugly now......you just wait and see.

JC, if my assumptions are correct, the location does make sense. It will quickly get cars past the awful Airport Road intersection. And depending on how they do it, there might not be as much to tear down as we think. The point where I show the road reaching MLK Avenue is on a hill overlooking the rest of Delmas, so the road basically goes straight up, and has a perfect landing spot on Martin Luther King Avenue, and the rest of Nazon. I'm just worried about the aesthetics, execution, and the maintenance.

Maximo, I'm sure it will be a legitimate overpass, but based on the details you posted, it will not be too long, and definitely will not be like the interchanges we are used to in the U.S.

Remember the last time you drove on MLK avenue.....it is NO avenue........the goal should be to reduce access to that street.

Furthermore, the distance from the intersection point on MLK to the much much wider airport road (avenue Haile Selassie) is an incredibly short distance.

I would love to see the cost/benefit analysis...if any was done.
