After an internal investigation, it was determined a police officer did
make a racial slur directed at Boston's Carl Crawford while the Boston Red Sox outfielder was on a minor league rehab assignment in Manchester, N.H., on July 5.
Leominster, Mass., mayor Dean Mazzarella and Police Chief Robert Healey said disciplinary action will be taken against the officer.
"This is a tough enough world we all live in. Nobody wants to be subjected to that," Mazzarella said Wednesday at a press conference. "This shouldn't happen anywhere, not any baseball park, not anywhere."
According to the report, Crawford said the fan called him a "Monday" while he was signing autographs before the game.
"Monday" is defined by Urban Dictionary as "Another way of saying (the N-word) without getting caught."
