An agreement was signed Friday between the Ministry of Tourism and the National Fund for Tourism Development (FONATUR) of Mexico for the development of a tourism development program for the Great Southern and the Northern Department, found Haiti Press Network.

This agreement follows a visit to the Haitian Minister of Tourism Dr. Stephanie B. Villedrouin Mexico where she met the State Secretary of Tourism of Mexico Gloria Guevara Manzo, who put her in touch with the director of FONATUR.

A technical team from FONATUR is in Haiti since Thursday, Aug. 2 and has visited the deep south and some areas of the Northern Department, informed the minister of tourism.

The purpose of this tour is to make a diagnosis on the tourism potential to work with a technical team on the Haitian establishment of a working methodology to move forward with the program, she added.

"In terms of tourism, we can not talk about development without a strategic plan," said Ms. Villedrouin deploring the method of construction is being done in the tourism sector in Haiti outside the norms without considering an urban plan.

"To speak of a serious development in the sector requires a development program must provide investors with such a program to inform him of the tags," said the Foreign Minister announcing the construction of resorts in areas targeted by the program.

The first part of this cooperation which started since August 2 will last one year, a first outline of the program will be presented before the month of December, promised Ms. Villedrouin.

For its part, the representative of FONATUR in Haiti Mauricio Fernandez Camps think this program that he says is an investment priority for Haiti, will be a total success given the government's determination in place, through the Ministry of Tourism to develop this sector.

Moreover, the Mexican ambassador in Haiti Luiz Manuel Lopez announced the construction of a vocational school in the town of Aquin that will provide courses in electrical, plumbing, maid, for the youth of the area.

This school will be ready in less than a year, is funded by the Mexican private sector. According to the Mexican diplomat, this project will enable young people to the area to take training in order to work in the resorts to be built in the region.
