Is it me or is their message appear to be all over the place? At first, it seemed to be about population control, then pro adoption..mid way through, against adoption..to finally arrive at the issue of restavek, and back again to being pro adoption. Haitians are so confused...
Shouldn't they be addressing those who are causing the mistreatment of the restaveks rather than the parents who send them away? After all, financial difficulty is what pushes them to such extreme. Shouldn't they address ways to help lessen the burden instead?
Such denial!! The haitian government is responsible for orphans..I needed a good laugh...what a joke!!
Almost All Haitians who grew up in Haiti and who grew up in the small percentage of middle class, upper middle class, and the Elite class had a restavek, which is very sad.
Now the fact that they are addressing the issue it seems to diminish.

Actually he upper middle class and especially the elite class don't usually use restaveks. They hire paid maids, chauffeurs and "geran lakou".
It is the lower middle class and the poorer classes which cannot afford the maid services they need and have to resort to restaveks.

Not all of the middle class, upper middle class JC,
Some do have restavek ,maid, gerand lakou at the same time. I know a guy who is an engineer in Haiti who's doing ok for himself, living in a nice house and has a restavek and a maid, so not all of them.

Read my post again maximo....i did not say ALL.
It is mostly the lower middle class and the poor classes that are the main users of restaveks...even many maids and ti-mashan have their own restaveks..
And your engineer is not doing that well if he has to use restaveks. And he is definitely not part of the elite.

You'd be surprised how many use them as sex toys.
or simply little errand boys.
They wouldn't be head butlers or valets, but they were employed by those servant's" to be "go for" boys/girls and other things of interest.
Saw too much of it firsthand.
Restavek is slavery in 2012 and often exceeds what happened in the slavery days of the ol' South.

Well I really don't know why he has the restavek beside the maid, but the guy is doing ok for himself he has nice car, a nice house and always doing constructions etc for people. He is part of the upper middle class.
And when I went to Haiti in 2009, I saw the restavek washed his car, open the gate when he's enter his house, take care of the flowers and plants in the yard, clean the yard things like that

And you didn't ask any questions?
It wasn't my business to ask about that.
As a Haitian and a human being, it's all of our business. When you see something, you say something. You can't sit behind a computer and complain about children being abused only to stay queit when confronted with the actual situation, especially when you are making such exaggerations about the Haitian upper classes.
