Can you imagine what the world would be like without the gift of literacy? without access to a free educational system? without access to a public library system? Well for most of the children of Haiti, especially the suburbs and those living in the countryside, that is very much their REAL world. Hence, why Iit’s important to understand and support the work of organizations such as Haiti Lumiere de Demain. Haiti Lumiere de Demain(HLD), a 501 c non profit organization dedicated to educating Haiti’s poor and offering free books, and uniforms to the most needy children in Haiti. HLD also opened the first public library in the island of La Gonave, which provides resources to both students and teachers. The formal education we receive can prove invaluable to our success and makes us that much more aware to better absorb the informal education that life has thrown my way.
So, Please join us on to reach this challenge: An anonymous donor recently made Haiti Lumiere a promise: For every 2 dollars raise by June 30th, they will donate $1.

Haiti is behind in every statistic when compared with other countries in the region. Illiteracy and the lack of educational opportunities only add to the tolerance for widespread political corruption and maintain an increased culture of dependency that hinders development.
