Sakpasemontreal.com had their third Annual International Haitian Music Festival in what was known as the Festival de Musique Haitienne on the weekend of July 11-13, 2008. As the title suggested, this festival was more than a Konpa Festival and showcased a broad range of Haitian Music.

The two-day festival had an interesting line up which consisting of artists such as Belo, Bamboche, Alan Cave and his Band (no not Zin), Black Parents along with other well known HMI (Haitian Music Industry) artists such as T-vice, Djakout, Krezi Mizik and Carimi. Thre were also local Canadian artists such as Nikel, Toto Laraque, and Harold Faustin. Similar to Kreyolfest which was held several weeks earlier in Brooklyn, the festival honored the legendary group Tabou Combo, for their 40th Anniversary. With 23,000 people in attendance (according to the announcement that was made) the first day, I have to say that the Montreal fest, looks like it is here to stay.

KB, you don't know who toto laraque is? He's no "local Canadian artist". That's a legend right there in the Haitian music industry. Look up the names: Gypsies, Ibo Combo, Caribbean Sextet. He was one of the original HBICs.
