PORT-AU-PRINCE—Hundreds of vendors are struggling to recover from a market fire that devoured more than 300 stalls in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.
Police and fire spokesman Frantz Lerebours says faulty wiring caused the early-morning fire Friday at the historic Iron Market. The blaze mostly consumed thousands of paintings and woodcarvings.
Lerebours says efforts to respond to the fire were delayed because the fire department has few working trucks.
The Iron Market, which officials have considered promoting as a tourist attraction, is named for its intricate metal stalls.
