Greetings from Haiti – October 2008

A long, uneventful, and crowded flight from JFK International Airport in New York got me to Haiti in one piece.  I left the United States in the turmoil of a pivotal election and a difficult economic crisis. I arrived in Haiti still reeling from its own, ongoing economic crisis made worse or course by the U.S crisis, as well as the devastation of multiple hurricanes.

Would I immediately see a big difference between this trip and my last one? Are people talking about Obama, the same way we are in the States? Are they excited about the prospects of a African-American U.S. president? Do they care? Or is the day-to-day grind going on a usual?

Come visit this blog often during the next couple of weeks, as I will try to bring pictures daily and keep a blog of what I see going on in the country. Also, let me know what you would like to see, and I’ll see if I can take some pictures and video.
