The town of Haitian Creativity

A city in Haiti’s West Department, Croix-des-Bouquets is a northern suburb of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. Pop star Wyclef Jean also brags of having been born and spending his early childhood there.

Steeped in Haitian history, Croix-des-Bouquets, is a good example of Haitian creativity - it resonates with the sounds of the clanging and banging of the mallets and chisels in the process of transforming raw metal into stunning, and often haunting, iron sculptures. Many drums are remanufactured in this town to bring life authentic art.

Several years ago Croix-des-Bouquets underwent a major clean-up. The town’s marketplace was moved from the center of the town to a dedicated area, bringing back Croix-des-Bouquets’ original beauty.

The streets of Croix-des-Bouquets have been restored. Once overcrowded, streets are now free of merchants, trash, and other commerce. The public vehicle stations and provincial bus stations have also been removed from the heart of the city and relocated to downtown Port-au-Prince. About two years ago a new school has also been constructed for the public school system. If you haven’t visited Croix-des-Bouquet, pay a visit. You might be surprised!
