Kanaval 2013 to be held in Cap-Haitien!

It’s official. Kanaval 2013 will be held in the northern city of Cap-Haitien. President Martelly has mandated that the national carnival be held in a different department every year with last year’s being held for the first time in the southern city of Les Cayes. This was due to the fact that last year, there were still people living in tents in Port-au-Prince’s Champs de Mars where the carnival procession usually takes place. Since the carnival in Lex Cayes was considered to be a success by many, there was relatively little resistance to giving other departments a chance to shine. In the meantime, individual cities and towns will continue having their normal carnival festivities as usual.

However, one of the problems is that many people cannot afford to travel to carnival in other departments and, as was the case last year, Cap-Haitien may not be ready to accomodate everyone who visits for carnival.

What do you think of this idea of rotating carnival across the various departments? Do you think the idea will be reversed after Martelly’s term is up? Speak your mind - Di Sa’w Vle!
