Things are getting hot in Haiti with the latest allegations that president Martelly is suspected of having received kickbacks from a construction firm owned by a Dominican senator. The contracts involved are currently under investigation and former presidential candidate Mirlande manigat has also been implicated.
These allegations have opened to the floodgates to many other reports of misappropriation of government funds, including questions on what is happening with the international call and money transfer taxes which are supposed to be used for education. There are also reports of lavish government spending and frequent withdrawals being made for friends and family.
Is this just another attempt by detractors to get President Martelly out of office, or is this the final nail that will seal the coffin? Join the conversation in the HaitiXchange Teledjol Forum. Di sa’w vle!
