After moving into a new facility several few months ago, U.S. diplomats posted in Haiti officially dedicated their new $75 million U.S. Embassy compound Monday.

Located in the city of Tabarre, just a few minutes from the airport in Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince, the newly constructed complex is among dozens of new embassies that the United States is building around the globe.

The Haiti facility is located on 10 acres and includes the main building, General Services Office (GSO) Annex, a warehouse, Marine security guard quarters, three access control facilities and a utility building. There also is a large interior atrium in the main building, an extensive landscaping and irrigation system and a state-of-the-art climate control and water treatment plant.

Also, with about 100,000 people—or 500 individuals a day—visiting the consulate for visas, staff now have 34 windows, up from 12 in the old building, to help visitors.

At the peak of construction, the compound had as many as 1,200 construction workers on site who helped log 5,580,000 hours of construction.

The embassy cost US tax payers big money. BUT most of the money came from those exorbant fees the INS is charging people to get into and stay in the US!

I was at the new embasy this week. I know now why we did not have power for 3 days in Delmas and why our gas was mixed with water. The new embasy is sucking all the power up for the entire country. Nice job, US. Maybe you could have spend some of the money on something useful.

This get to show if US government can build such a nice complex in a short period of time, they can help haiti with so much more. I see so much hope for Haiti but the us government and the haitian government have to be serious about the future.
