A series of giant graffiti-style murals painted on the walls of Port-au-Prince artist’s neighborhood as their final farewell to the members of the Barikad Crew who lost their lives in a car accident on Sunday, July 15th, 2008.

The works, which adorn the bare partition walls of the homes in the area, were created by artists such as Nixon Pierre, who is interested creating “something not to forget the death” of his favorite artist and long time friend.

The artwork which will give the neighborhood a continuous reminder of the tragedy, will be displayed for many months to come.

Fans line up to take photos in front of the hand painted murals.  A Barikad spokesman said a protective coating would be placed on the walls to avoid weather damage so they can last.

Other street artists involved in the mural project include JR, renowned for putting photographs of people on beauty salons and barber shops in Port-au-Prince.

K-tafalk, Dade and Dejavoo will be remembered in their neighborhoods as long as the life of the mural, but they will be remembered forever by the thousands of fans leaving their permanent mark in Rap Kreyol.

The murals measure 15 feet by 12 feet, and will decorate St. Nicholas Street for many years to come.

ape, where do u go in Port-au-Prince? There are great number of paintings, murals like that all over PAP. I get tired of seeing Wyclef's mug all over the place sometimes. THe bad thing is after a while, they start losing their color and vibrancy.

I agree, I hate going through PAP and seeing lazy spray painting of party slogans or who to vote for...I think that should be illegal...if its art I'm for it because PAP certainly needs color since only a small percentage of houses are painted
