amber how are you this Brotha Max-- We do that to pay homage to the slaves during the revolution. Most people dont knbow that the slaves will meet out in the woods to practice thier religion, call on the spirits to give thier warriors strength to fight.

this is Jeremy - the director of the doc. Thanks Pascal for posting this! The fire has to do with the music vodou origins -its like a send-off blessing for the musicians to give them strength. When I was filming this, the band was struggling between staying true to the music's vodou roots, verses "cleaning up" the music for the Haitians in America who may not be into vodou.

Rara is a way of expressing a feeling..its like a poem. It also have to do with our difficulty as Haitians, our ups and downs...it like raggae but different rhythym..I luv it it is popular thing in Haiti..Rara 4 life!!
