On Sunday, June 14, 2009, audiences were treated to a performance by Beethovas Obas and his brother Emmanuel (Manno) Obas at BLVD on Bowery Street in lower Manhattan. This was the very first show of the brand new Coup de Coeur series put together by organizer Donald Toussaint.

The difference between this and a regular performance was that the audience got to get up close and personal with the artists. Beethova and his brother Emmanuel engaged the audience, talked about themselves, their past, and their dreams. The closeness between them and the audience became all too apparent when both of them broke down while singing a song dedicated to their late mother. The audience responded with a round of applause.

The first edition of Coup de Coeur was a huge success and will be followed with a show featuring Michael Benjamin in July. Hope to see you there.
