Will Haiti finally have a Prime Minister who is fit for the role?

Robert Manuel

If everything you know today about Aristide, you knew 11 years ago, would you consider that he was still fit to be President? With all the dirt the government is trying to dig up about Robert Manuel, “Bob” as nicknamed by the Haitian population, perhaps asking “Who is Robert Manuel?” would be the more appropriate question.

Manuel, an Architect, writer, and poet is the ex-president of a Haitian writer’s organization. At 55 years of age his strategic positioning in Politics has placed him in the position to be nominated as Prime Minister.  As a longtime friend and adviser of President Preval, Manuel states that “’The country is at a very difficult moment”. With his non-core promises, can he assist to lift the Country out of its current condition?

Haiti’s current government’s efforts to establish a stable democracy were dealt a heavy blow when violent demonstrations erupted last month over the escalating cost of living. The previous Prime Minister, Alexis, was dismissed for failing to manage the economy.  Manuel’s core position is to fist establish security. The Senate didn’t want Pierre Eriq Pierre who was initially presented by Preval for the spot of Prime Minister. Will they want Bob? Is Haiti running out of Political talent?

Is this not the more relevant question in Bob’s campaign? Now Bob has to furnish his identity papers proving his Haitian Nationality during his last 5 years. Let’s hear your views.

To HaitianQueen - you wrote "The issue of security is the number one priority right now and we can't afford to go lax on it." My point is insecurity is a direct result of the fact that the big majority of the population is unemployed. To fight this insecurity, you have to create jobs (low wage is better than nothing).

I grew up in Rue du Centre near Potay Leogane. I have friends in cite soley, bele, cite de letenel, fo senkle etc; and seen the misery and what these strong people have to go through to survive everyday. Claiming that u can bring security with police and MUNISTAH oppressing these poor people is foolish.
