Haitians were out in force for the 199th anniversary of the creation of the Haitian flag. Brooklyn's Nostrand Avenue, the heart of New York's Haitian community, was packed with beautiful Haitians of all ages donning Haitian Flag day T-Shirts, head-bands, doo-rags and flags. As far as the eye could see, was an ocean of blue and red.

This woman was definitely the 'most Haitian' person in the place! |
A makeshift stage was used to accommodate speakers from the Haitian community, Brooklyn politicians, and performing acts such as the up and coming Haitian Christian Rap group, the Shepherds. Some folks from Wyclef Jean's camp came through (including his brother and sister who make up the group Melke Sedet.) Wyclef was on tour in London, but sent his love. Even Abner Louima made a trip from his new home in Florida to spread some Haitian pride to the crowd. All in all, the event was excellent and was free of the violence (deblozay) that marred it last year. Ayisyen kenpe papa!
