Send this article to a friend. Discuss this article. At first glance, these guys look like they might be regular homeboys from around the way. Once you start speaking to them and get to know them better, you'll realize that they are on a mission that can only be classified as divine. Benchoummy, Little H, and Dr. Nicolas, are the three members of a Haitian Hip-Hop group called The Shepherds.

The big deal is that they're all about rejoicing in the name of Jesus and spreading the gospel of The Lord. The best part is that they do this in Creole, all while managing to hold on to a hard, Hip-Hop edge. They're doing things started by Hip-Hop Gospel pioneers such as Kirk Franklin, and taking it one step further.

HaitiXchange caught up with them one afternoon for an interview, and this is how it went:

HaitiXchange: On behalf of HaitiXchange.com, we present the Shepherds, and we want to congratulate them on their very first video "Se Kiyes Ki Met Nou - Letenel". Welcome guys. Good to have you here.

Shepherds: Likewise. Thank you.

HX: Alright. I'm gonna get started. We have Bennchoummy.

Bennchoummy: Bennchoummy the Analogist.

HX: Ok.

Bennchoummy: Salomon jenerasyon-an.

HX: Woy! (laughter)

The Shepherds pose for the HaitiXchange camera.

HX: We'll elaborate on that! Actually, one of my first questions is 'What does your name mean?'

Bennchoummy: Well the first sylable "Benn", it means 'Son of a Levi". And 'Choummy', my father gave me that name. I think he made it up. You know, but I'm liking it now. I'm loving it actually, and that's my stage name. That's my birth name. That's what it's gonna be.

HX: So we'll just call you the 'Levi'.

Bennchoummy: The Levi.

HX: The New Generation Levi. (Laughter). Ok, then we have Little H.

Little Haiti: Yes.Little H

HX: Is there a lead singer? Or is it just everybody doing their part which is what makes you a group?

Shepherds: Yeah. Definitely.

HX: That was one of my next questions. Ok, we have Little H. I'm gonna get back to you, and Doctor Nicolas?

Dr. Nicolas: Dr. Nicolas! L'Operateur du Cœur [The Operator of the Heart]….you know.

HX: Ok, let me get back to Little H. Does your name have any meaning? Where is it derived from?

Little H: Ok definitely, I know that a lot of people ask what the "H" stands for. But definitely, the "H" stands for "Haiti" because this is where I'm from. This is where I came from. This is where my parents are from, and this is where Black history has made a big impact. So this is why I carry the name "Haiti" behind my back because I feel so proud that I'm Haitian.
