MY FEET HAVE FELT THE MANY SANDS
OF MANY NATIONS,

I HAVE DRUNK THE WATER OF
OF MANY SPRINGS,

I AM OLD,

OLDER THAN THE PYRAMIDS,
I AM OLDER THAN THE RACE
THAT OPPRESSES ME.

I WILL LIVE ON.....

I WILL OUT-LIVE OPPRESSION
I WILL OUT-LIVE OPPRESSORS.

"DETERMINATION"

"The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us-that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion-that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain-that this nation, shall have a new birth of freedom and shall not perish from the earth."

I took some liberty and edited Lincoln, it's the American way - it suits my needs and conveys my thoughts on missing Haiti.

Today I ponder whether my next trip to Haïti may be my last for the foreseeable future. Disgust level in my family is running high at this time and everyone wants to be as far away as possible from there, which begs the question what the hell are they talking about when they write: “Haiti is in the midst of recovering”? As I left the place quite young, I will make an effort to spend some time and reacquaint myself to the only home I will ever know, for even through all of its trials and tribulations there is no place on earth where I have felt more free, and the love I get there is energizing; and that’s why blan yo pa vle kite nou trankil. I do not want my melancholic mood to be too infectious; but some days the world sucks and this is one of those days.

I’m glad I took the time to read everything you wrote, cause if I did not I would missed your point by a mile.  Yes there are days where we feel this life sucks and nothing has a true value.  I’m an optimistic person and I will always be this way as long as I live.  I believe Haiti is on a better path cause things cannot get any worse.  We were the first black independent country and we are paying for that today, but I don’t feel as if its everyone that is after to lower us.  I truly believe that there are countries that wants to come to our aid, we can’t blame the whole thing on the “blans” cause they did not cause us to be incapable of putting our heads together.

Do you think J Bush would take a trip to Haiti if the Haitians in Florida did not make up a great part of the voting pole?  If we as Haitians voted more and got more involve in government and created a strong community, we would make these “blans” walk and do what so ever we want.  Though our votes has jumped, we still are not at the same levels as the Cuban community.

I live in Harlem and in the Bronx has mostly Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, you should see how the elected officials jump every time these two groups sneeze.  Those two groups vote and they have power cause they vote.   We need to vote also and those that cannot vote as of yet should still be encourage to participate in what’s going on in the community.  I really blame the Haitian consultant of NY for not striving like a desperate man in need for not getting more Haitians involve in voting and getting registered to vote.

Mayor Bloomberg went to the Dominican Republic to help with health care.  It’s not his Job to help others outside NYC, but he wants the Dominican votes, just like J Bush went to Haiti picked up one scoop of rice than called it a day and now he’s going to split the Haitian vote in Florida.  I’m not a Liberal, but who ever is going to pump money in Haiti and in the Haitian community I will vote for that person.

Papaille – Don’t feel discourage though things look bad, things will change some how.
