Venezuela recognizes Aristide government in Haiti: Chavez CARACAS, April 23 (AFP) - Venezuela still recognizes Jean Bertrand Aristide as Haiti's leader, and not the government that succeeded him, President Hugo Chavez said Friday.
"(Caracas) does not recognize nor will it recognize the government imposed on Haiti," Chavez said, referring to Aristide's claim that he was pushed from power when he left on February 29.
Haiti has since been headed by Prime Minister Gerard Latortue. Chavez spoke at a ceremony in which he decorated St. Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas.
"Aristide ... was kidnapped and removed at gunpoint, not just from the palace but from the country," Chavez said |
