Bush Going to Africa

What do you guys think about Bush’s trip to Africa?  The president brings with him pledges of $15 billion over five years to fight AIDS, $200 million in famine relief and $100 million to fight terrorism.  The Package sounds good but some question was raised. Why is President Bush going to Africa so late in his term?  What is really behind the trip?

“Bush hopes to reach out to both liberal blacks, the voting bloc from which he faces his most intractable resistance, and religious conservatives, who solidly back him but have been pushing his administration to invest more in global anti-poverty and hunger programs”.

Is President Bush only doing this because He wants the black Votes?

What do you think about this trip?

Yes, President Bush needs the black votes he will do his very best to get it. He will also make every effort to get more minority voters. His trip to Africa is a good move in which he will try to achieve many things including trying to correct his earlier statement in 2000 when he said that he wouldn't send US troops to Rwanda in the 1990's because Africa wasn't part of our "strategic interest."  He is the first Republican to visit sub-Sahara Africa also an opportunity for him to show blacks that he cares now. His promises of billions of dollars to fight AIDS, hunger and terrorism is yet to be materialized. As you said he hopes to reach out to black liberals. President Bush said that he is going to promote Democracy and Capitalism. Hum! to promote Democracy in Africa,we all know what is going on overthere today with some "tonton macoutes" big anti democratic regimes. The continent is suffering from many serious crisis. His neo-conservatives, far right old boys are too involved in foreign policies these guys are living in their own planet, have a different global vision even trying to take away many of our rights and priviledges as American citizens. They are entitle to have their voices heard, but need to respect the majority's opinion. They need to stay away from running things up. President Bush needs to step in to lead us in a better direction for we are not better off today than before he took office two years ago. After our two recent wars in Afganistan and Iraq we worry about more wars, terrorism attacks, our economy and our children future. Beside Africa, there is Haiti, beside the liberal black votes there is the Haitian American votes. President Bush needs to look at what is going on there, his old ultra conservative out of touch guys "foreign policy experts" ignorant of Haiti's realities with obsolete views are running wild. They are creating more mess for his administration, wasting our hard earned tax dollars to finance a cruel opposition.While depriving the needed people, oppressing the masses and support anti government rebels who are killing innocent people in many parts of Haiti they give our money to bogus non government agencies. Recently an American "pastor" was caught red handed, arrested in Haiti while smuggling shot guns, military uniforms, bomb making powder and remote control device. We just learned that USAID is giving more money to support "journalists" and other ONGs. They are playing dirty games  blaming, pressuring and are trying very hard sabotaging President Aristide's effort,  forcing him into more and more concession while allying themselves openly with the opposition. In fact these guys lack tacts they can't even conduct proper covert operations. President Bush's representation in Haiti needs to be reevaluated. Their un diplomatic and arrogant attitude will hurt him. His father made ill advised decisions Haiti by relying on forged reports from corrupted CIA agents. He needs not repeat his father's errors, prevent the worst befor its too late. President Bush needs to promote democracy in Africa and Haiti, encourage political parties to participate in the democratic process, fair election and teach people to follow our American modele of politics. His guys in Haiti are not promoting democracy there but engaged in destabilizating the country thereby creating more political and economical problems including the boat people phenomena. Even the average Haitian can see the "invisible hand" the opposition takes his clues from the American Embassy. President Bush can reverse the current situation and win votes and hearts. Its better late than never, never too late to do the right thing. His chances of showing his conservative compassionate are still there. Time have changed people are more aware of what is going on the world is smaller. We are watching and will vote on issues, will vote for candidates who are pro Haiti just like the Jews vote for candidates who are pro Israel.

 Bush needs the Blacks' votes to win. The paradox is that he will win anyway because while most Whites vote for their cause, most Blacks don't. This is what Whites count on the most.

   VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.

Guest;

George Bush became president by following all the legal and constitutional avenues afforded to him by the system.  Yes there was a dispute in Florida which recounts after recounts failed to give Al Gore any hopes.  Finally the supreme court stepped in and gave a ruling; some agreed with it, some did not.  Nevertheless it brought continuity to the system and a resuming of the governing process.

It was a great test for our system of government and I must say the rule of law was followed and this democratic system (as imperfect as it may be) was the winner.  If only we could do that in Haiti.

As a non suppoerter of Georges Bush, I was also not pleased with the result.  I realized however that no man is greater than the greater good, and unless Gore could prove some illegalities, we should all accept the decision and support the new president.

If only Al Gore had won his home state........

You are right on target Kreolbro Haitians  need to learn to respect the democratic process. The american poltical system works we have seen numerous examples. Unfortunately  there are Americans who come to Haiti to advise Haitian polticians the other way around. We need to take the good and reject the bad.

If us was to following the legal process of democratic, why does bush put  an ambago on haiti because the opposition said the election was not good, in which they cannot provide any evidence.Nevertheless this administration is backing up the opposition ( since this coward opposition is the servant of this administration)
