I read the letter 3 times and for the last 3 days I've been reading the feedbacks. I must say that I found the letter very moving and very much on target. I don't think for a moment that a large number of Haitians really care about "change" in Haiti. They are for the most part very comfortable with the lives they're living here. And a bunch of radio-heads are doing their best to make Haitians think less about Haiti by providing them all they need: Carnival-weekend dances-restaurants-radiopublicity-money transfer-food transfer-churches,churches,churches-all types of special events. making Haiti seem a distant place. Now all those people do not want change in Haiti because their business would be in jeopardy if Haitians were to go back home as the letter suggested. They will be fighting as hard as the government to make sure nothing change. They talk from both sides of their mouths. This letter should really inspire a real debate about the future of Haiti, so far I don't see anything to indicate a willingness for such.

If you have a plan in mind, write a proposal and ask for grant from foundations. But you really have to know what you are doing. So I suggest you to further your studies in the field of social development. Or work for some NGOs to gain practical experience.

The following is just a successful story of how a person can take the lead and help.

Haitians are funny. I am a Bahamian and I really cannot understand the Haitian people. Of course Haitians living abroad cannot save Haiti, but they can do something to help.  the people in Haiti cannot help the country, the major of them of so uneducated that reasoning is not even possible, and they do not know anything better than what they have know all their life, which is poverty and an existance full of struggles. To me, the haitian diaspora should start with one goal: EDUCATION. Those in the states, Bahamas, French Guyana, Canada, Swisterland, etc...  should raise money to build schools, educate the young people in haiti; that alone will be a drastic change. Does the Haitian diaspora attempt such a feat? NO. Instead they spent their money on parties, concerts, and other stupid things and expect other nations (like us in the Bahamas) to help out YOUR people. what is even funnier is people in this site are always posting pictures of carnivals, concerts that they promote in HAITI, what about some constructive programs that is going to help the country in the long run! no wonder you guys are the worst off in the west indies, and probably the americas. You guys need to stop practicing voodoo, get together and try to make this nation a better place for its people, and maybe you guys will be able to stop coming to our country and try to make it like yours because us Bahamians will not stand for that anymore. But you guys will not do that, the international community cannot wait to see Haitians partying it up on the street of Port-Au-Prince on top of all the dirt celebrating their independence from slavery... when in reality Haitians are the only group of people still in slavery whether in Bahamaland, Guadeloupe, or even in Haiti etc... I cannot wait for this so-called 200 year anniversary party in the filty street of Port-au-Prince in January. Just remember, the rest of carribean community will be laughing at you guys. But you guys do not care since the Ogou will save you from all your misery, Right?

Peace

You are so funny..But HaitiXchange is not a good place to make your comedic debut.

You make it seem as if the Bahamas was the richest country in the carribean and Haitians messed it all up. Ha! big funny!  You and your Bahamas dont know what it means to Battle the greatest super powers on earth and win, you dont know what that means so you dont know how it feels to suffer the consequences, all your used to is being Brittains toilet tissue because it uses your islands to wipe it's ass and blow it's nose.  Haitians will come poohpooh on you too cuzz you deserve it, your not even a country, your a proctectorate or some "crap" like that.  You mad at Haitians for being in your country or "common wealth" and I bet my last gourd you in somebody elses country. You people are comfortable being lap dogs for super powers so you get all the puppy chow, and now you come on our site, smileing with all your dog food stuck between your teeth and try to insult us. Get on the ground and give me tenty push ups! Maybe next time youl think your words through befor you adress a general... fooogen lapdog, patooi! You make me wanna spit!

To our Bahamians friend, in many ways you are right.  We the Diasporas are not doing what we are suppose to do to help our country out.  I know Haiti will change, and when it does, we will shine.   I think its very disrespectful of you to come here using that kind of language trying to insult anybody when you yourself cannot run your own danm country.  If you don't like Haitians in your country, kick them out.(if you can)

Please don't be Hate!  Mierd!

To the Bahamian Spook;

I would address your statements if you were from a real country,  if your people had any history, or if you had shown some sign of being educated.  Your people are totally irrelevant in terms of World history or anything else for that matter.  One could wipe out the entire Bahamian population and nothing will be missed; no culture, no history, no religion, no art, no literature, NOTHING.  Destruction of trees would have a greater impact, for trees contribute something to our environemnt.

You could have populated the Bahamas with animals or make a tropical zoo and botanical garden and there would be no difference. If the white man decides not to come to that protectorate you will all starve.

Finally whether you like it or not we will celebrate our 200th anniversary.  Maybe one day your people will have something to celebrate apart from the white man taking care of them.   Yeah right......

Everyone;  I think that "Bahamian" is really a fustrated Haitian ( remember the medical student).  Also he/she mentioned French Guyana and Switzerland; most non-Haitians are not even aware of a French Guyana connection.  And of course the reference to Vaudou.

I think we are dealing with a Haitian christian zealot.  He/She probably spent some time in a refugee camp in the Bahamas and is a born-again christian.

It is a nice attempt but like the long letter and the support it generated from "invisible " guests...lol    It has failed to achieve its intended goal.

Nevertheless, I stand by my comments about the Bahamas and its people.
