Hi to all of you Haitians out there.
My topic is about some of the Caribbean websites who maybe forgotten or purposefully not listed our flag on their websites.Couple weeks ago while on line visiting a Caribbean website, I've noticed that out Haitian Flag was missing. I was very concern because I suscribe to them. All the Caribean Flags were there except for ours. Immediately, I wrote to the webmaster asking him why the Haitian Flag was not included. Well he apologized and promised that he would add it to his website as well. Yesterday I went back to make sure that we were included and indeed he added our flag. Therefore, I think us Haitians should stand up and speak up when we are been treated as second class citizens.
Thank you
Atlanta.

Good stuff, guys, I like that. We should all be doing the same thing. I believe there's a conscious and subconscious effort to leave us aside. We have to work for every single red penny of respect.

hi,
Thanks so much for replying. I guess you are right. Actually the same website that I was talking about, they have added the flad but the emblem is not there. I have sent them an email regarding that. but I will be waiting to see what happens. I am very passionate about my country and my nationality.
Thanks again

Seriously folks, why should we care if the Haitian flag is missing from a Caribbean/West Indian site, business front, music float or food stand on labor day.
I fail to see the benefit in begging a powerless group to include us in anything. Where is the prize?

I too, have notice the Haitian Flag not being included with the Carribean countries. I feel that if they are going to represent one, represent all. |

Kreyolbro, you da man and all, but lately, you've been on crack. How can you not get upset when our flag might be the only one mssing from a Craibbean lineup? Whenever haiti is not included in a lineup where it definitely should be, I speak up. I'll be like "Yo, what Happened to the Haitian flag?", it usualy always results in some action being taken.
When I was younger, I used to get upset when I looked at maps, and Haiti was either not shown, or just represented by some little speck, while other countries of the same size, were displayed in detail. You gotta let people know when they are unfairly ignoring or misrepresenting you.
Also, it's not about begging some little powerless group. All these little powerles groups toegther, can have a profound effect on people's veiws and attitudes towards Haiti and Haitians.
If you don't demand recognition and respect, you won't get it.

Thank you Negwe, that was the truest thing someone could have said about this topic...all those little powerless countries make up a bigger slice of the puzzle...people are constantly going to Caribbean sites and they have no idea who Haiti is and what we represent...then later when they turn on their Tele they see a Haitian protest they dont even take the time to acknowledge the cause because they have no idea what a Haitian is to begin with...dont think anything out there is powerless trust me...even these words we type here are powerful, so powerful that the only reason I found this website was because I was doing a search on a topic and found a forum discussion here that was about it, everything counts we cant afford to take things for granted, we cant afford to suck our teeth and say only our opinions count about ourselves...it doesn't work that way especially in America, the more people you have backing you and voicing out for you the more rights you have...we are constantly being shot in the news or having police moleste us and the laws doing the same to the ones that come here by means of bananna boats, nothing will change if our attitude is forget everyone else they are powerless...we're not the ones that go in front of the senate and ask that certain things be changed to allow us a better life in America and abroad...we have to make sure everyone knows who we are, what we stand for and where we are from and respect it the same...
I for one am disgusted when I dont see the haitian flag in Caribbean sites, or flyers...I dont buy calling cards that dont have our flag on it but has every other country in the Caribbean, I wont buy anything that reps the West Indies but forget about Haiti...I just wont do it...if they forget me, they will hear from me right before I turn down whatever they are trying to get me to spend my money on... |

Kreyolbro, think of it this way...no matter if we feel that a group is powerless or not we need to make sure we put ourselves everywhere we see suit. We are a caribbean people aren't we? So why shouldn't our flag be included with the others? Haiti has been isolated from the world for far too long. I do feel that this is not the only thing to do. We really need to be present where things matter most. When it comes to things like business, infrastructure, organization etc. we need to be one of the best. The flag thing is important most definitely. Let's take it a bit farther and ask them why are our news not included. Why aren't we spoken about. How about allowing us to speak about Haiti on their websites etc. We need to start feeling that we have to make an invasion in everything necessary tho show that we are here and we are here to stay. |
