You know what! a lot of us can't stand still and watch another bortha succeed, no that's too overwhelming! I was only giving the brotha some compliments and it turns to this- I am extremely disappointed! So what! if he promotes himself- ain't nothing wrong with that.  Much power to him if he can do so, most of us can't yet we still praise ourselves.  I am an extremely beautiful young lady (hence my name) and I graduated at the top of my class with a masters of healthcare administration, yet sometimes I have to try hard to keep quiet about that- hey why should I if everybody else are making it known for me-  When I was scooped up in a dorm room away from my family studying until my brain bleeds for over 8 years- that was no joke!! I've watched many on my path who failed- now that I'm successful- hell yeah the world should know! A brotha like tibob should not be able to contain himself after all these acheivements. Beautecajou... for your info. one does not acquire knowledge through going to school alone. A PHD does not qualify you a savant,  its only a form a personal accomplishment. Does that make you a know-it-all, I frankly doubt that. getting out of character with me does lead to nothing but to more quarell, as a result Im gonna forgive. Ignorant views! I doubt that. For your info again, most of my songs -and my books- are all about joyful and happy topics. It goes with my personality. I am fun to be around with -not a professor or an artist or a poet or a writer ... I am a people's person who strives to make others laugh when I fall short to make them happy.

Guest, you are right, degrees don't make "savants" even though they're saying a lot about their holders. But you have to agree with beautecajou also. In this society, degrees are the only measures to be economically profitable. That's why we don't have a better way of ESTIMATING people's knowledge. It's only when you get close to a person, you can truly experience that person's intelligence. And this is where degrees are mere reflections of acedemic achievements.

Personally -as immodest as that sounds- even if I had 10 PhD degrees, I would still have my true knowledge base UNDER-REPRESENTED. I am a self-taught person. I've read so many books and CREATED so many ideas and concepts that I'm convinced to be an ambulant library. That's why I hate to present myself through degrees. Once we start talking, then you will see what I know, not through immodest and authoritative tones, but through anecdotal, ironic and respectful remarks.

I am an eternal child. I live life at its very root. I can't count how many times people have been telling me "kilè w ap granmoun ou-menm?" (When are you gonna grow up?) They are just personal acheivements. Now when I can help EDH (Electricity D'etat of Haiti) with their problem where my grandmother wont have to worry about blackout, then I will manifest my acheivements.....

Why don't you start a thread regarding the blackout problem in Port-au-Prince? Maybe a lot could be said to help through the brainstorming. I think you would be instrumental to spit great pratical ideas down. What do you think?
