Hi, I am Li-Ess. I am the person who sent out the email originally because I was livid to learn about the exploitation and dehumanization of a good, hard-working, beneficial community.
"Shame on You" talked of how this man and company refuse to return calls, etc.
Well it is time we made sure that they don't simply ignore this issue. I support a far-reaching boycott of all their products. I support a barrage of letters to make sure we are heard. I support picketing the NYC office.
However, an apology is not enough; action must be done. Mainly, this video game MUST BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET in the US and abroad completely. They can create a new game of capturing criminals or the devil - I don't care just as long as this game and the derogatory phrases, insults, and injuries cease.
This is not simply a Haitian matter. This needs to be done for ALL ethnic groups. No one deserves to be the butt of a joke, the target of violence, nor exploited.
That is why I want all of your support. First we need to get the word to our allies, friends, families, and the like. We need to publicize our frustrations and why this company needs to be boycotted. From there, we can see where we need to go. |

It's Li-Ess again.
LEADERS
Of course, we want leader support, but it must be amongst other support. We can not only rely on their talents and efforts while we sit back and watch. It requires all of us to work as a team. I would like a well coordinated, organized effort - but more importantly EFFORT.
Within the next few days hopefully, I or someone else will provide the appropriate addresses, numbers, other contact info, so that we can mail, call in, email, etc. or concerns.
Perhaps in the meantime, we should start drafting letters...essentially stating we don't like Haitians as a target group of violence and death. We won't these videos recalled, off the shelves, and to never create a video targeting Haitians or other ethnic group.
I am not a lawyer, so I can't speak to what we should do on that end. But I know we must exhaust the most accessible forms of protest. |

Umm people people...I think we need to really figure out what we should protest and what we should not protest. This game is not an anti haitian game. It is about doing deeds for gangs. There is a Cuban gang and a Haitian gang and I believe there is a Columbian gang. In the game, you have to kill people of all three of these gangs. When they say "kill the Haitians" they are speaking from a Cuban gangster's point of view. What if they said "kill those stinkin russian mobsters"? The truth is, in FL there is a Haitian gang that does drug trafficking and all of the players in the GTA(Grand Theft Auto Vice City) actually do it in Miami. The game portrays real life but of course it adds a bit to it. There is a part where you have to kill a whole bunch of Cubans when they get in a fight with the Haitians. If you listen closely, the Haitians actually speak real kreyol. It is not a cheap imitation as it was in Bad Boys II. Speaking of that, where was the protest? How many fake Haitians were blasted in the bad boys II movie? Didn't will smith say something about getting out of his country? To me, Bad Boys II was more humiliating to Haitians than this measly game ever will be!
With all the problems that plague us, you would think that we would go after more serious things. Trees need to be planted in Haiti, gas grills need to be distributed in Haiti. We have Little Haiti , which was in the video game, looking like crap in front of Little Havana! Why don't we try to clean up Little Haiti? Why not rally for even more political power in Souther Florida so we can fix up our communities there? A damn video game people! The game is not called kill the stinking Haitians. The game is not called lets have Cubans kill Haitians. The game is Grand Theft Auto Vice City, where you commit crimes for different gangs. Those that want to rally against violent games have a reason to go against this. For us to feel that it is that important to protest for a video game, diverts our attention to the very thing that the video game shows us. We are poor and our youth are getting into crime in South Florida.
I've heard some woman on Radio Carnivale talking about some kind of cleaning going on in Little Haiti. I encourage you to try to find more info about it and help out. These are the things we really should care for. Radio Carnivale is at www.sakapfet.com on their home page. You can just click on the little logo and it will play on a real one player.
