HaitiXchange will be going to Kanaval on February 21st. Things have been really hetic, which is why you haven't seen the site change in a while. I've ben busy working on Kanaval T-Shirts (we're hooking up with TNH (Haitian national Television), as well as preparing a commercial which will air on TV in Haiti.) Things are going to be really interesting on HaitiXchange so stay tuned. Don't worry, the site will be back to it's old self soon...

Kreyolbro....gotta give you my contact info in Haiti... You too Tijou.

I hope my T-shirt is reserved.  You do know it will be a Racine Kanaval by the government.  I believe T-Vice was invited to Trinidad and the rest of the bands will not participate.

As usual lots of beautiful pictures. Yes Tijou we'll have a Kanaval Rasin, Band a pie that's ok too. The people have a right to express themselve, relax for a while. Remember about 90% of the key business owners in Haiti are like this "celebrity" American-Lebanese-Haitian businessman Andy Apaid, citizen from different origin and culture who never give a danm about Haiti but making money to send to their country. Now that the black folks are asking for a piece of the pie, demanding democracy, justice, reparation and restitution, better working conditions and a pay raise for the poor factory workers all of a sudden the political climate changes. This remind us of 1991 when the same gang got together with their American friends to overthrow Pres. Aristide. Today again the American government through IRI, created an opposition to destabilize Haiti, put a repressive regime in power that will create an environement condusive to mass abuses and exploitations like good old days. They can take a plane to go to carnival in Rio , Trinidad, the French islands or anywhere they want. The main Opposition leaders have either residency permits or visas from their bosses' countries with enough money from foreign sources to go have a good time. The average Haitian have nowhere to go but Champs de Mars, sou beton an. Did you expect the elite to help? They can care less. Today they say it's their way or no way. But we must be vigilant this people are capable of everything well trained, well financed full of hatred for the black majority of Haitians.  Let's take care of our business, let's make money to develop our country. Vive Haiti, Haiti  to the Haitians

Sorry Amber; Krazybro has retired.  As Tijou and CoolP alluded to, this Kanaval will be even more "roots" oriented than last year's.

With many of the "hoodlum" compas bands missing, it should be a spiritual as well as festive affair.   No pushing and fighting, just people dancing and relaxing.

My suggestion would be to replace the Compas bands with massive DJ trucks playing a more subdued and varied type of Kompa.   It would be more cost effective and more musically pleasing.  See how the Trinidadians do better with their DJ floats than we do with out band floats on Eastern parkway (T-Vice is the exception).

And yes it is official, it will be 5 Fat Days this year instead of the usual three.  From Friday the 20th to Fat Tuesday the 25th.   Some say there is a political significance to the "number 5"  Aristide's term.....  who knows.
