Son, I am maaaaad dark........and LOVELY! Proud of it too. So any bourgeois elite who's ready to diss better take two giant steps back!
sorry to interrupt and be off topic but a friend of mine made me think about something the other day...she says that us black people always have to big up our status (she's Jamaican so sorry for the slang) because we have to say things to make ourselves beleive we are beautiful with our complexions instead of just letting it be a natural feeling...in other words, we have to say things like "dark and lovely" or "black is beautiful" or even "the darker the berry...." all this is to make ourselves feel good...she said, if that's the case why do we feel compelled to advertise that?
I am black as black can be...so if someone ask me if I am dark, I say yes, very dark...and I might even throw a saying in there to depending how i feel, but why?...dont I beleive it? then why must I? why do we have the instinct to? is it because we have been put down all our western existance that we fight the thought that "black isn't beautiful" by making those statements?
someone asked negnwe if he was dark, he said yes, but went into a defensive mode right away by broadcasting that his darkness makes him lovely and then something about elite wanna diss...my question is, why does he feel compelled to say all that rather then just answering the question?
dont bite my head off, it's just a thought |
