What do you think of the idea of having a Haitian Music Awards ceremony? Did you attend last year? Are you planning on attending the event in Miami this year? Who would you like to see walk away with an award?

My cousin went to this event last year. Although she said it wasn't that crowded, it seems like it was fairly well attended. It's supposed to be even bigger and getter this year, so I'm going to try to make it. It's about time we started doing some main stream stuff.

I don't watch award shows! We don't watch Tv at all and I personaly feel that awards should be given for greater things than singing and acting. Even sports figures are blown out of the water. Real heros should be celebrated and raised above the average joe! The Nurse who plugs your severed arteries and saves your life. Expecaly when all the singers are talking about is getting naked.. humping your friends girl (or guy) drugs and money. ..... Then again I did hear a song yesterday that took me by suprise. It is by Naz or something.. with a bunch of kids singing they CAN DO ANYTHING.. very positive.. but no song like that will get recongnation..  Just my take on wasted funds for dust collectors.

Although I agree with you when it comes to American media, I think this is a great first step to making Haitian music credible in this country. Everyone knows and generally respects Salsa, Merengue and other Latino music, but Haitian music doesn't usually get any props outside of the Haitian community.

I agree that we should also be celebrating our doctors, teachers and community leaders, but that should be for another arena abnd another discussion. Here we are talking about music, which is an integral part of Haitian culture.

You numbskull, this wasn't the actual award ceremony. This was just the reading of the nominations.....Reading is fundamental!

well to me I think that it seems like a very great idea because one thing I see in our haitian community that we are lack of doing is having the word of respecting someone talent. If we all can get together well let us do but always remember why we are getting together for meaning that not to go and hate on one another because if one can win an award at the haitian music entertainment award it will make us feel like all haitians win because we haitian people are winners. for example if wyclef, garcelle , or the shepherds would won an award this is a victory that these people have accomplish and ofcourse just like toussaint had helped us won the war its the same way one of us can help the other to be a winner also. Last year I attended this award and one of my main objection and clarification I found that was very ugly is that some artist was hating on each other or eighter the crowd were hating at the artist. well to let some people know that this is an award show it is not the appolo where people go on stage for recognition and get booed.....by the crowds and one guy that really amaze me and shocked me when he it was he's turn to go on stage he made a comment of how all of us should get together instead of that hatred feelings we have among ourselves..and he's name was olden polynice the former NBA basketball player........

met peyi an......a.k.a.   paka pala...........holla back..

A little piece of info Tyrone and Garcelle both attended the award show last year. There were other celebrities such as Vanessa Williams of Soul Food Gabriel Cassieus, Olden Polynice. Every year we can't have same stars attend instead we should rotate so the commuity becomes familiar with the Haitian American that have made it mainstream.

Peace
