I have to admit that I am impressed with Digicel and the amount of work they are doing to get Haitian business. What impressed me the most was that their website is also in Kreyol for the Haitian market! No one else took the time to do this. The Voila web site just put everything in French in the ignorant (or lazy) assumption that all Haitians read French.

Click on the french flag and you get the french page.

Click on the British flag and you get the English page.

Click on the HAITIAN FLAG and you get the HAITIAN KREYOL page

That is RESPECT

With all these haitians in the DR, they might have to replace the french page with a Spanish page.

Exactly! For anyone who wants to check it out, click here: http://www.digicelhaiti.com/

Then click on the Haitian flag in the upper right corner. Mad respect!

The Voila web site (which is owned by Comcel) is all in Tulututure!

By the way the government only allocated  9 million gourdes  for the Carnival this year , and for the  first time the money is beign splitted with two other cities : Cap-Haitien and Jacmel. Digicel can absolutely do more, Haiti is their biggest market right now, it has a very profitable business, and their cost structure in Haiti is relatively low. The Carnival Contest is PR campaign, and I would hope that Haiti's tourism officials look closely how Digicel is marketing itself as company   and try to learn tricks of the trade.Haitel  and Comcel , their parent companies need to give them a bigger markerting expense account  for Haiti, they are losing market share day by day and  because  Haiti's telecommunications regulating agency CONATEL   has not yet decided  on the interconnection issue with  the two companies, the bigger share they get, the more leverage since you can only call people who are only on Digicel's network.

NewHaiking, that's not true. People in Haiti can now call anyone, no matter what carrier they are on. Someone with a Voila phone can call someone with a Digicel phone and vice-versa. It is no longer necessary to carry two or three cell phones around. The interconnectivity issue has been resolved for quite some time now.
