Ok, I had my mother read the label to me over the telephone; she said that it is imported from Thailand; I feel kind of stupid because I was encouraging other family members to buy "Madame Gousse" versus the Jasmine rice b/c I though that MG was Haitian and I know that Jasmine rice was imported from thailand... so they are both imported from the same place.

Nadine; thanks for sharing that information with the members on this site.

The name and picture on that bag is niche marketing and it works.

BTW: I also erred on my previous post. Thailand is in Asia but is not an island; I had Taiwan on my mind.

NG, I don't like to use that name of yours, but here  something we can do about that rice  thing. It is perfectly fine for Thai companies to target their niche market .Caribbean Customers. Madamme Gougouse is not a Haitian trademark nor owned by a Haitian company. The Thais  do it to the  East Indians  by labeling the rice as Rasmati Rice   so Indian customers could buy it, but you know something it is American trading companies  in New Jersey and Florida that are doing the deed , the Thai company rice importers  just tell the poor farmers in Thailand -Fill the bags up so you see who the real  enemy is.Haitians send millions of dollars of food through Cam , Bobby Express, Unitransfer, and Soge Transfer but do you know all these comapnies buy American rice from North Carolina  and delivered them to  your families instead of buying at least aportion from Haitian farmers.Domestic Rice in Haiti costs more than Chinese,American ,Dominican and Thai rice that's really a problem. Most of our farmers are runnig to the capital , because farming is look down upon in Haiti, no social services in those communities,  and no income to support themselves because they can't compete.

no more negative thoughts...no more sarcasm against our government...let's see what they got...we didn't have anything before they came so let's just see and hope together that they can deliver us something that we can work with...

I'm sorry guest This goverment is not our goverment we haven't choose them...This government is not for Haitian, this money poor haitian(about 6 million of haitian) won't even smelt it.

Ape; Good posts and I share your sentiments.

However you need to differentiate negativism for its own sake from constructive critical analysis.

Questions such as why the existing debt of 1 billion was not anulled or reduced?   will any haitian companies qualify for these contracts or will they go solely to the lending country's firms?   will there be joint projects?   what is the plan for growing the economy?  need to be asked.

The reasons we want someone to pay attention to these issues is because we don't want to see Haiti 10 years from now still poor, unable to feed itself, but now with a debt of 2.5 billion.   PROMISES of aid are very political, are not guaranteed, and have many restrictions some of which may be detrimental in the long term.

You see how in the great United States every thing is debated with the pros and cons argued over.  It is a good exercise for we all have something at stake.

It's ok to feel good and optimistic, unfortunately these feelings do not develop countries or grow economies.  All short term exhuberances will be followed by a reality check.  In Haiti's case, we need sound economic planning with long term objective.  Accept grants and gifts for cosmetic touches but only borrow with the aim of sustainable development and a positive ROI.  We need number crunchers for this job.

Putting our collective head in the sand and just say thank you will prove that we have learned absolutely nothing from our past experiences.

Nigger constructive critism would be asking all those questions you asked, what I see on this site is pure negativity at it's most potent form...our so called PUPPET government is not constructive, it's just negative...PUPPET or no puppet, it's what we have, if we dont stand behind it, we will just keep spiraling into space until Haitian people in Haiti start eating dirt for food...oh they are already doing that in some places my bad...seriously, we are just too damn negative...nothing is hardly constructive about the things being posted on this forum...just a bunch of sinical people talking isshhh when they are living good under air conditioners and cable...people step outside yourselves and try to imagine yourself in the state of Haiti's poorest of poors, you think they care who's running the country? all they care about is having a chance to have a life...let's hope for this to be their chance and ask the questions need be asking instead of the constant mockery...we Haitians are not at all proud people...we think we are...out of all of you here I'll bet 1 or maybe 2 end up living in Haiti again...all we are proud of is that we are different, we have no choice but to be proud otherwise the stigmas that come with being Haitian would have us hate ourselves...

We are like black people when they say "black is beautiful" if people really beleived that there would be no reason to constantly say it...we are not just failing as a nation, we are failing as people...we dont know how to rally behind anything...Haiti is in a state right now where only outside assistance can help us get out of our misery...now that we got it even if by force, instead of rallying behind our so called Puppet government and see if they can start a new trend...we diss diss and diss for no reason other then having something to say because we just love to talk...

So what do you suggest Neg Bosal since you seem to know so much yet posted nothing CONSTRUCTIVE?...should we give back the 1.2 billion and not give the unchosen government a chance to see if they can be CONSTRUCTIVE as like they say they plan?...

another question...since this is not our chosen government...tell me something, since you have been Haitian, how many chosen governments have we had? and out of all those chosen governments, which have left us with the best roadmap to follow to a better future?...which have actually taken us out of dept? which have produced more education for the school?...

By the way, Haiti's problems are not 100 percent the fault of the Haitian government...a bit of it is also the fault of Haitian people who sit and wait for the government, who when all else fails just blame and turn on the government, who no matter what government they are given will find something negative to say in order not to back it, or who sit in America in comfort, will not be voting in Haiti's election but know what government is right and which is wrong...

Enough politics people...put that aside...if you beleive in god, pray that this is the last bad turn for the country...if you dont beleive in god, pray to whoever...for once, let's stop the blame game, the hate game, the miserable sinical game and come together and defend what we have...chosen or not...

P.S. since so many of you love to model your impoverished poorest nation in the Caribbean after America the total opposite of Haiti, remember, America didnt' exactly pick their government either, but when shyt gets thick they stand behind it 100 percent like true patriots...why dont you learn that lesson from your Uncle Tom instead of how to unconsciously want to see your country fail?

Your fellow countryman,

Ape_Man

To answer you frankly I don't care. We have proved them that we were able to survive without their Charity and thing wasn't bad as it is right now. Of course I would like that money to go to poor Haitian who needs it the most. But I don't think that would be the road that money will take. After the humiliation of February 29th this government has decided to grant tax and financial advantages to the big businesses, but nothing for the little merchant.

another question...since this is not our chosen government...tell me something, since you have been Haitian, how many chosen governments have we had? and out of all those chosen governments, which have left us with the best roadmap to follow to a better future?...which have actually taken us out of dept? which have produced more education for the school?...

You can like them or hate them, Lavalas have been elected. And they were asking for 21 billion of dollar that France has stole from Haiti not charity from international community. This government hasn't proven yet that they are defending haitian interest.
