One thing  that is being bothering for a lomg time  and today I really have a chance to bring it up is the fact that the ht. is not being used or registered by anyone or group. Some countries have used their domain names to fund their technology projects by leasing them on the internet. Why is the minister of communications not up to this. I don't know. ICann , the organisation who issued these domain names have  began a massive program to tget the Asians  countries to use characters instead of letters  to equlize the internet for the non-latin languages speakers in the world.A lot of companies especially the big brands rush to register their domains under  differeent extensions to protect their brands, and the governmemts of certain countries encourage the use of .fr instead of  since you have through them then Network Solutions whichs manages the .com names. Imagine Haitixchange.ht ,I am going to try to register it. The internet must be an equalising tool for us poor countries to compete with the rich countries on a technical level.Instead of  fighting about politics ,why can't we come together on this one.Sagi and lekamokin sinnce you guys like to complain about people not writing in French or Creole on this website . the ht. name will be mostly if it was to be used since mostly people would want their message to reach their audience us Haitians and we speak Creole , French,Spanish , and English mostly in that order. So Coolp ,tell me what is going with that issue since you most likely familiar with it than anyone here? Even the official Haitian government websites are not using that extension while all other countries use theirs.

Guest,

This is a very interesting point. Although I don't think I will rush to register HaitiXchange.ht, I did start doing a little research on the matter. I'll let everyone know what I've found. Also, if anyone has anything interesting to add, please do so.

These are some of the people who may be able to enlighten us about this subject ,so if you want to contact them you may. This issue must be pressed  until we get sastifaction and us Haitians learned how to attack concrete issues such technology. How can Haiti develop without using the resources that technology can provide. I 'll say another thing instead of those old  garbage from to Haiti , why don't you save and  send a computer to your family in Haiti instead.Yes, people in Folrida you guys are the biggest trash haulers to Haiti , even the American  media knows about this. I actually we are guilty of this in the expat community. You can get  a cheap computer from Dell,Acer,HP these  for 600 dollars , since those instead if you can afford it .Computers in  Haiti propaly cost around 90,000 gourdes about 2600  dollars. With so many Haitian websites popping left and right here in the US,why can't we come together to start  an internet project   to get Wifi , LAn, Wan, Creolel softwares,DSl,Broaband for Haiti.

Pascal , you see how   we are progressing, the only reason Coca Cola wants to register their domain with the ht.extension is because they see    something.Coca Cola is very protective of their brand, but Rolex people! The rich  people in Haiti got some incredible dough , but they won't share it.Anyway, I hope more companies will get on the bandwagon  and start  registering .The government should   take all the money and put it to good use, so all Haiti's universities and public schools should have computers.I am  going to write  a letter to all the computer box makers Dell,Gateway,Apple, and etc.. to take  a look. We  got to  move on with that wiki project.I got some nice thing I am coordinating  for Haiti, but it is going to take some time.

what about if many concerned posters here, created a charitable org. or an NFP to raise funds and to make personal donations to send computers to yongsters in Haiti. These computers can be raffled in Haiti... ie, to: best student competition, best discussion presented on modern tech., to a neighborhood youth soccer team, to the winner of a marble competition, to the winner of the best jum-rope competition, to the winner of the best roslet competition, to the winner of the best serk competitor... .. these sorts of things can be used as an honest mean to distribute these computers freely to those that need.... Along with each Raffle winner, provide at least: one year of fully paid internet service, one year of fully paid electricity service to the winners' family's household. Mandotary weekly on-line interactions with Haitian computer Tekkie among us here to help them expand their knowldege and useful usage of theyr computers, create modular lesson to be taught on-line, that can influence future interests in technology education... We can suggest the conditions in more details as a group of concerned and participating members.... I know this sounds kinda Krazy, but it can be done... and it could be a good investment to the future in technology for some Haitian kids. Obviously, I am just a computer user so this may lack in infrastructure, but if you guys can think of the possiblilites in making this happened, I 'd donate at least 2 computers of what ever brand choice.. (immagine if this could be multiplied by some posters here, as personal donations.--- This is not too much, it can be written off in your tax return) Or just let me know if I'm just Koo-koo.     I look for the reply to this.
