We didn't support them in the first place.  It was good that some Haitians could make it June 12 in the Miami game, but in terms of other kinds of support, we did not support them.  This team had been in the states for months at the doorstep of the diaspora and they still had to be taken care of financially by Clavijo.  Some people didn't even know they were here or that the matches would take place until a few days before.  There was no fundraising, nothing.  The players weren't getting paid, the coach we hired weren't getting paid and there was no government in Haiti to pay them.  I believe they did well with what they had to work with to bring some happiness to the island.  They shouldn't be ashamed of anything.  I blame the politicians, the federation and the fans more than I blame the players.

This team had no support from the government or the haitian private sector.

It is to their credit and their non Haitian coach's tenacity that they made it this far.

In world competition fan support is secondary. A team needs financial support for training, traveling, practicing , and the maintenance of its players; in other words millions of dollars.  Jamaican business interests have heavily invested in their national team.

Just one look at group pictures of the Haitian and Jamaican teams shows the contrast.   The Jamaican players look more muscular and better fed and have a more professional presence.  The haitian players display the poverty level of that country by their frail appearance.    Take any team in this continent and most teams in black africa and the same will hold.

Haiti has no responsible government and no business class worthy of that name.  Basically a country and people devoid of social, political and economic leadership.

Since were no longer independent, the Bush Regemn can instruct their turtle not to fund or back the soccer team, much to the shagrin of Haitian soccer fans everywhere.  But then again, if Aristide was in office and financialy backed the soccer team, people would insist that he was more concerned about soccer then the dire conditions of poor Haitians.

What is it that we want?
