Above Guest;    You have made some good points but that still does not excuse a sloppy performance.  A bad performance shows a lack of talent, but a sloppy unrehearsed performance as most on this site have described Glover's contribution shows a lack of respect.

I wrote earlier about Mr. Glovers performance being a double edged sword.   To answer the guest accusing those of us who were disappointed in Glovers performance....I was hurt by his performance because as Kreyobro and NegNwe said; it showed both a lack of respect and uprofessionalism with impunity.  I couldn't even bring myself to applaud as others did each time he exited the stage.  I was left feeling very, very sad; not even angry...just deeply saddened.   We are not fools easily appeased by the promise of a "Hollywood Name."  By accepting that this was "good enough" for us mere Haitians, we dishonor the significance of the very History we were supposed to be celebrating.

Yes, Mapou productions gave us a great venue.  Unfortunatley, the show did not do complete justice to the location.  I have been to many events at similar locations; The Orchestra is always dressed in tails.  If it was a problem for the musicians to all have  tuxedos, then, at the very least, black suits and ties for all should have been mandatory.  For members of the musical ensemble to appear in t-shirts was disresctful to the $100.00 that I paid.  Further more, the orchestra drowned out both the singers and the narrators.  Even allowing  for initial glitches, there was an intermission....why didn't a member of the production team notify the sound man of this problem?  From my vantage point on the first tier, I could seee thet he had a telephone and could have been notified even during the performance.  My final suggestion to Mapou is to schedule full dress reheasals, videotape it, tear yourselves apart critically, fix the problems, then and only then place us, as a People, on full display for all to see.

The guest that complained we are not showing enough support.  Guess what?  There were plenty of non-Haitians at this event.  Do you think we changed there mindsets about Haitians in general or do you think that they walked away thinking "well, not too bad for a Haitian show..."  That's not good enough.  At this level, from this venue, they ( and we) should have walked away speechless with awe!!!!!!!!

Guests,

let me tell you something, you are  very very confusing.  I know your name doesn't really matter, it's your opinion  that counts, but don't you think that it would have been bettter for the readers, if you could add a number or something at the end of your post on each thread to differ one from the other?   especially when there are 2 or 3 of  you replying to the same post, you see what I mean?  You won't have to use the same number on every  thread of course, that would be a recipe for disaster. That was a suggestion. What do you think?

I still do not understand why public figures and others who produce for the public consumption tend to be so sensitive to objective criticism. It is certainly a sign of insecurity. We, the consumers, have an obligation to make an assessment. It is about time that some people stop jumping to defend what one clearly explained as being mediocre. Most people clearly appreciate the performance of the haitian dancers. They were way above the other performers. Consequently, they should have received the loudest ovations.

First of all have you ever paid attention to Toussaint did u noticed that every picture that I see Toussaint in he is holding something in his hands. Danny wanted to remain true to his character and the way Toussaint was in real life. I had a chance to view the script and that's the way it was written to be. Therefore maybe Mapou shoul have mentioned in the program so guys would understand at  what angle they wanted to celebrate Tossaint. I can bet if someone else wants to depict the life of Toussaint they will have a different approach.

I am not excusing anything just trying to see both side of the coin thats all. I didn't catch much of the show so I can't say as much as you are saying. I don't think no one trying to be hater. On the other hand if we don't have these type of dialogues how will we know when have not met our objectives. Or that the message didn't reach it's intended medium. I am not making excuses if it was poor let be it be said so in the future Mapou would know that it should only deliver the best to the community. I don't it was a bad performance because they were catering to the Haitian commuinty. Let keep this dialogue going.

We should not accept mediocrity no matter how famous the actor is...Toussaint is one of our forefathers and we should always want people to take him seriously.
